The first one that came to mind....and one of my favorites...and honestly, if you've never heard it...you really should:

I Love You (And I'm Glad That I Said It) written by Tommy Boyce & Bobby Hart
Performed by Dolenz, Jones, Boyce & Hart - 1976
Sang by Bobby Hart (in what I feel is his best vocal ever committed to disc)

As I look back on my life and times
    My pleasures have been few
    And my only happy memories
    Are when I remember you

I loved you the moment I saw you
And far across the crowded room my heart adored you
And all you said was "I'm glad to meet you"
And the earth moved all around me...love had finally found me

    I loved you
My heart wrote you a letter
Every time I saw you on the street I knew you better
Ah, but you know...I was only dreamin
    Deep within my secret splendor
    I'm sure you don't remember

Once upon a time I met a girl who had the prettiest blue eyes
But after all the times I tried
    All the times I cried
Those pretty blue eyes would never notice me
And if they ever give awards for the loneliest story
I'd be there when they give em out
And I'd win without a doubt
There's no fame for tears and pain and love that don't work out

I loved you and I'm glad that I said it
Nothing you can say or do can make me regret it
And though my arms may never hold you
Still I wrap my arms around you
Thank god above I found you

Once upon a time I met a girl who had the prettiest blue eyes

I was just listening to this one this morning... definitely one of the best songs on the subject, ever. The lyrics are so incredibly heartbreaking... and sadly, I can relate to them nearly word-for-word... :sigh:

    You Don't Know Me
    Ray Charles

You give your hand to me
    And then you say hello
    And I can hardly speak
    My heart is beating so
    And anyone can tell
You think you know me well
    But you don't know me

No, you don't know the one
Who dreams of you at night
And longs to kiss your lips
And longs to hold you tight
    Oh, I'm just a friend
    That's all I've ever been
    'Cause you don't know me

For I never knew the art of making love
Though my heart aches with love for you
Afraid and shy, I let my chance go by
The chance that you might love me too

You give your hand to me
    And then you say goodbye
    I watch you walk away
    Beside the lucky guy
    Oh, you'll never know
The one who loves you so
    Oh, you don't know me

For I never knew the art of making love
Though my heart aches with love for you
Afraid and shy, I let my chance go by
The chance that you might love me too

You give your hand to me
    And then you say goodbye
    I watch you walk away
    Beside the lucky guy
    Oh, you'll never know
The one who loves you so
    Oh, you don't know me
    Oh, you don't know me

From the movie Grace of My Heart, My Secret Love by Kelly Porter! Here the object of her affection knows about her feelings, but the rest of the world doesn't know of their lesbian relationship.

I'm surprised that I didn't see "Losing My Religion" by R.E.M. The song is about exactly this subject.
