This song by Teri Nunn--while on vacation from Berlin--was a nice nugget from the Better Off Dead soundtrack:

I really like this Elton John track, Measure of a Man, which appeared on the Rocky V soundtrack. It was totally out of place on that soundtrack, which is otherwise made up of urban pop tracks.

It's a rare Elton track not written by Elton (it was written by soundtrack maven Alan Menken).

Does "Holiday Road" count (only made it to #82 on Billboard)?

    Linsey Buckingham, of course.

"Dream Away" by George Harrison was a good upbeat closing song for the 1981 film Time Bandits. The song was released a year later on his Gone Troppo album as well as a single:

George Harrison's contribution to the Lethal Weapon 2 soundtrack, Cheer Down, was another winner that deserved better than it got on the charts (it didn't even chart on the Top 100):

This lovely ballad from Ice Castles. I don't know why it flopped, it sounds like a sure hit:

And Carly Simon's Let the River Run, from Working Girl. It won her a Oscar, but failed to crack the top 40:

Eno covering a soul classic from Music from the Film Married to the Mob.
The soundtrack also features Goodbye Horses by Q. Lazzarus which became more famous in The Silence of the Lambs because Buffalo Bill liked dancing.
