    It is now her second most frequently covered song after "Both Sides Now," and it may have passed it since I last looked it up.

    Amazingly, in the 25 years after Joni first released it (1971 to 1996), there were fewer than a dozen documented covers of "River"; all the rest are from 1997 and later. After Peter White, with guest vocalist Kenny Lattimore, recorded it for the 1997 album Songs of the Season, the floodgates opened.
