Please don't ask me how I feel, I feel fine
Oh I cry a bit, don't sleep too good, but I'm fine
    When can I see you?
    When can I touch you?

Again and again I ask myself was I wrong?
Oh but time's a healer, and heaven knows I've been strong
    Maybe we could try
Maybe we could work this time

I can remember when it was easy to say I love you
But things have changed since then, now I really can't say if I still do
    But I can try
I know that the kids are well, you're a mother to the world
    But I miss my boy
I hope he's good as gold

The entire Duke album is a real emotional roller coaster if you ask me. One of my favorite Genesis LPs.

Their Rumours, definitely. The Beatles had no women within the band, remember ;) And Yoko's influence only started to shine through on the White Album.

Let us never forget what Tom Petty said to Stevie Nicks when she told him she wanted to join his band :
" There are no girls in The Heartbreakers ."
Cheers to ya , Tom !

    Uncover me
    Come my restoration
    Wash my body clean
    I've been walking
    Along a crooked path
    Where the walls have fallen
    And broken me in half

    I'm telling you
I will not rest till I lay down my head
    I'm gonna go
In the house of stone and light
I shall not cry for the blind man I leave behind
    When I got
In the house of stone and light
In the house of stone and light

    Holy lady
    Show me my soul
    Tell me of that place
    Where I must surely go
    Old man waiting
    At the gates for me
    Give me the wisdom
    Give me the key

    I'm telling you
I will not rest till I lay down my head
In the house of stone and light
I make my way O gonna be such a beautiful day
In the house of stone and light
In the house of stone and light

Let me in beneath my skin
In the house of stone and light

    It's been too long
    My spirit's been at war
    Havasupai Shaman
    Let me be reborn

All I will embrace the sun upon my face
Come the day I awake the child inside
In the house of stone and light
And when I go I will op-op-open my eyes
In the house of stone and light
    I will see you
In the house of stone and light

I'm looking in beneath my skin
In The House of Stone And Light

If you find me in a gloom, or catch me in a dream
Inside my lonely room, there is no in between
Whispering pines, rising of the tide
    If only one star shines
That's just enough to get inside
I will wait until it all goes 'round
With you in sight, the lost are found
Foghorn through the night, calling out to sea
Protect my only light, 'cause she once belonged to me
Let the waves rush in, let the seagulls cry
For if I live again, these hopes will never die
I can feel you standing there
But I don't see you anywhere
Standing by the well(standing by the well), wishing for the rains(wishing for the rains)
Reaching to the clouds(reaching to the clouds), for nothing else remains
Drifting in a daze, when evening will be done
    Try looking through a haze
At an empty house, in the cold, cold sun
I will wait until it all goes round
With you in sight, the lost are found

And I thought from the thread title that this would be about Lloyd Cole and the Commotions' first album...

Can I recommend June Tabor's version? We like it better than the Pogues. See also her version of Bogle's No Man's Land.

My friend said she could see no way ahead
And I was probably better off without you
She said to face up to the fact that you weren't coming back
And she could make me happy like you used to
But I'm sorry to say I turned her away
Knowing everything she said was true
And that's the price I pay for loving you the way that I do
There's something inside that hurts my foolish pride
To visit the places we used to go together
Not a day goes by that I don't sit and wonder why
Your feelings for me didn't last forever
Girl I love you so much that sometimes it's such
I'd walk a mile with a stone in my shoe
And that's the price I pay for loving you the way that I do
That's the price I pay for loving you the way that I do
So keep that phone out of my way for the things I must say
Are empty if you don't believe they're true
And that's the price I pay for loving you the way that I do
That's the price I pay for loving you the way that I do
I love you so much that baby it's such
I'd walk a mile with a stone in my shoe
And that's the price I pay for loving you the way that I do

The number one heart breaking song for me is:
    10cc - I'm Not In Love....
Killer lyrics and chock full of wonderful atmosphere.

I keep your picture upon the wall, it hides the nasty stain that's lying there.....ouch.

Very personal. The Eagles "Best Of My Love". Because the proverbial "love I lost" told me, after the fact, that she couldn't listen to the song because it reminded her of the guy that she left me for, who later dumped her. We're both married to other people now, but, she still owns a piece of my heart.

That track very often brings tears. Very powerful.

The murder of John Lennon has always been a heartbreaking event for me. Even though the lyrics aren't 100% satisfying, there's enough to Elton John's Empty Garden (Hey Hey, Johnny) to often bring tears and sometimes, during particularly vulnerable moments, even sobs. I'm getting chocked up just writing about it. FU, Mark Chapman.

From the same Elton John album is another heartbreaker, All Quiet on the Western Front.
