Well, some are so dire they should not even be mentioned. I’m particularly thinking of “_______” by “________.” :ignore:

Not a bad song per se, but made no sense that it was a hit. It came out at a time when overproduced dance pop ruled the charts. Here comes a third-tier hair metal band with the third single from their album and it’s a non-power ballad that talks about social injustice and teaching children and praying and trusting in God. So non-metal it hits #3 on Billboard. Go figure.

    I think that's a great single -- tuneful, catchy, and fresh-sounding. Yeah, it's a little cute and a little easy-listening, but it was 1975/76 -- that's what people wanted.

I always thought "Little Red Rooster" by The Stones hitting #1 in the UK was an oddity. Sure, it was early-days in the British blues boom, but try to find another pure blues record that hit #1 on the pop chart then...?

There has never been a song that was a hit that should not have been. If a song is a hit it is because a certain amount of people like it. If a certain amount of people like a song than it should be a hit.

This is another case of a thread not having the correct title. Most threads are like that.

Mull of kintyre. Goes on too long. Took up too much time on top of the pops when it was number one for so long.
