Just thought of two songs that proclaim, more or less, that "It's great to be alive!" In the Derringer song "Keep On Makin' Love," Rick sings, "Feels reel good just to be alive." And Frank Zappa tells us in "Call Any Vegetable" that "It's so ****in' great to be alive." Can you think of other examples?
Steve Forbert - "Goin' Down To Laurel" When he sings, "They tell me this great life can always end," he sounds like he really thinks it's just a rumor
I wouldn’t say the sentiment is “it’s great” to be alive. The way Eddie Vedder talks about his intention when writing it, it’s quite the opposite. It’s the fans that flipped the meaning.
How could a guy with a Flipper avatar not post this one? “I too have sung death’s praises But I'm not gonna sing that song anymore ‘Cause I've found out what living is all about And it’s Life! Life! Life is the only thing worth living for.” - Flipper, “Life”
Quite literally, as the words “it’s [****ing] great to be alive” are actually in the lyrics, “A World Of Hurt” by Drive-By Truckers. *The expletive is usually sung when the song is played live, but isn’t on the studio original.
