John Fogerty - Have You Ever Seen The Rain

    From Wikipedia:
In an interview, Fogerty stated that the song was written about the fact that they were on the top of the charts, and had surpassed all of their wildest expectations of fame and fortune. They were rich and famous, but somehow all of the members of the band at the time were depressed and unhappy; thus the line "Have you ever seen the rain, coming down on a sunny day?".

the beauty of that cover of the Nine Inch Nails song is how it flips the premise of the original. Trent Reznor sang it from the perspective of a broken young man filled with self-loathing as he contemplates suicide. Johnny Cash sang it as a weary old man filled with self-doubt and recrimination as he contemplates death.

He's not for everyone. Probably a good thing because it's hard to imagine the ramifications of a world in which the majority of people were relating to "Things Behind The Sun" or "Place To Be." Everyone would just stay indoors beneath the floors and people would think they were weird or lonely.

Not fair - the whole of Bruce Springsteen's catalogue deals with existential angst :)

Great lyric to a great existential song. But here's the thing: one of the most recognizable faces in rock and it's significant that a policeman knows who he is? Just kidding. Great song.
