  3. Nate-O-Phonic

    Nate-O-Phonic I didn't get a Harrumph! outta that guy...

Arlo Guthrie had a version of Alice's Restaurant done rock and roll style on a 45, logically titled "Alice's Rock and Roll Restaurant". Produced by Lenny Waronker and Van Dyke Parks, with Doug Kershaw on violin. It found it's way onto an obscure songs of the 1970's CD, even though the single came out in '69.

The Alarm had a boxed set that purportedly had everything they'd recorded, but it was missing this B-side (one of their best). It finally surfaced on last year's Declaration reissue.

The single made it out in early 1980 at the tail end of the disco era. The intended album was cancelled because the label went bankrupt. As far as I know the song isn't on any LP.

Sugar Mountain by Neil Young was pretty hard to find for a long time. It was on a 45 but didn't show up on an album for years .

As previously mentioned War Song by Neil and Graham was also difficult to find.

I had to special order the 45s of both of the above to get them. I remember Sugar Mountain took a couple of attempts before the store was able to get it for me.

I dont think the excellent 45 version of sky pilot has ever been on an album.
The big band 45 version of Dylan's 1971 George jackson is only on the Australian masterpieces.
This is lame because he has like 50 bootlegs or whatever the series is called and he cant put that song on one of them.
Also Neil young 45 cinnamon girl could be put on one of his 20 archive released cds

For quite a while, the "Big Band Version" was available from the Dylan website, to be pressed onto a custom CD with other rarities of your choice.

The "Acoustic Version" was available briefly on a special tour edition of the "Essential" in Holland.

Darn I wish I had known that. Thanks I'll check it still. I think the acoustic is in biograph maybe .

  13. Andy Smith

Andy Smith .....Like a good pinch of snuff......

A clean copy of that would be marvellous. Mine on the Australian 'Masterpieces' sounds like a needle-drop. Poor quality. Hissy. Great song though.

No, I’m afraid it isn’t, but it is on "Side Tracks". Also a compilation LP called "Listen Up, Whitey".

Listen up whitey is the acoustic version.
Both sides of the 45 were the same song different versions. That is kinda of a first I think.
I think mellencamp did the same thing with pink houses.

Lucky me bought an Australian copy in Ireland, many years ago !

Yes, the website offered a selection of tracks to be cut to CD with a few sleeves on offer. You made up your playlist and duly, it arrived on your doorstep. I think it was limited to one per person.

I believe this is my version (far from home, so can’t check).

Sting— “Spread a Little Happiness” (1982)—not sure if it was a single, but it was released on the soundtrack to ‘Brimstone and Treacle’ and can’t be found anyplace else. No Sting or Police compilations nor streaming services. You CAN find the video on YouTube however.

Awesome idea they had too bad it's not widespread!

I think 4 tracks from your CD were included on a 2nd CD that was added to Time Out Of Mind in 1998 as a Special Commemorative Tour Edition release.
