"Only In My Dreams" (Debbie Gibson)
It is just pure pop and she was cute, but not sleazy like so many other young female pop stars.

Mandy is a great, if over the top mawkish, song.

Probably every pop song I like qualifies, but I am going to go with "Chandelier" by Sia.

What makes that song so great is the instrumental bed, really tight and rocks.

Man it is catchy and Deyoung sings the heck out of it. Plus its fun to sing with groups of friends.

"Mandy" typifies what this thread is about--it's mawkish, but catchy and well-produced. Barry Manilow isn't my cup of tea, but he sincerely believes in his craft, and "Mandy" is the one time--imho--he hit it out of the park.

"Disco Duck" is a cloying, corny, cringe-inducing monstrosity , cynically put out by an ambitious DJ as a quick cash-in on what was then thought of as "the Disco Craze." That the author of this atrocity built a career on it adds insult to injury. More power to Rick Dees, but "Disco Duck" is the worst of the worst.

I absolutely love listening to music but don't really know good from bad. I've heard stuff around town about what's what, but my ear and limited knowledge aren't so adept at discerning art from uhhhh not art. And my tastes range quite a bit but usually not into pop songs from the past 10-20 years. So songs I'm surprised with how much I really enjoy listening to are...
Party In The USA - Miley Cyrus
Shut Up And Dance - Walk The Moon
Call Me Maybe - Carly Rae Jepsen

I keep meaning to check out M.Cyrus and Carly Rae Jepsen albums in hopes I'll like them. Stay tuned.

I don't like this band or anything else they've done, but I like this song.

Oh, and the lyrics are stupid.

First time I heard this song I started laughing so hard I just about fell out of my chair. Still think it's great. And since I don't listen to any hip hop past like '06 (end of college) that's quite a change for me.

You're spot on about Mandy, but I also have no problem with Disco Duck as a response to my original post. Everything you said about it is true (I grew up in SoCal and couldn't stand Rick Dees). These are all great reasons why nobody, especially if they are music fans, should like it. And yet, for some folks it just hooks 'em.

This almost made my original post. For some reason, the video struck me as low-budget, goofy masterpiece on top of it.
