Irving Burgie, Songwriter Who Helped Bring Calypso To America, Dies At 95

 

In addition to writing for Harry Belafonte, Irving Burgie ("Irving Burgess") also wrote for the Kingston Trio during their heyday.

"The Seine" is a well-regarded album track, later recorded by the Four Preps.

According to articles I've been reading, he died of heart failure.

Belafonte's Calypso is one of my all time favorite albums.
Listening to it at this very moment.

 

I think he wrote Day o , The Banana Boat song. That will live forever. RiP
