A yes... Good old uncle Hank with the Klipsch Jubilee's he carried back from Okinawa after WWII. I already feel a tear welling up deep inside remembering how we'd sit together in the shadow of those speakers listening to the Grand Ole Opry on warm summer evenings...

Good thing he was not a POW in Viet Nam. They never would have fit.

I'd be awful tempted to pick up a pair of Dynaudio Special Forty if I were in your slippers.

There has got to be a better place to put the hifi in that apartment than that location. In that location I'd just stick with the 686's frankly. And yeah Heresys are not going to work in that location.

My Special 40’s are around that same 24” from the wall. I am sure this is a case of the room influencing sound. The Special 40 is a very good speaker and I am glad they work so well for you. In my case, I am not sure they are the right speaker for me and my room.

Nonetheless, this is the issue why I would not suggest the Special 40 for the OP.

I am wondering if a smaller Dynaudio might work well in this particular space.

Have you tried using the plugs for the rear port?

Or the Heritage Special, a friend has a pair, probably the best 2 way I've heard.

Yes, I have used the plugs. They help with some music but not all. I keep them out most of the time.

That would be a great deal if a set of Heritage Specials could be found for CatManDude’s stated budget of under $3k.

Not likely for 3K. I was referring to Pete @Bananas&blow .
