I was fortunate to see all those Cap/Iron Man/Thor/Subby/Hulk cartoons, as well as Rocket Robin Hood, on my local UHF channels
Wow this one ? What a deal. I bought it when new but it was still 40 to 50 $. Spider-Man 67 Collection DVD - Complete Spiderman 1967 Animated TV Series | eBay
Season Two started off OK with an origin story, but the pacing was slooow and the oft-repeated bits to economize production costs was jarring. There was one plot repeated THREE times. Hey – it’s a cartoon for grade-schoolers.
This brings back memories. Keeping the vibe of 007 in comics. The library stuff post-’67 is darker and the rock tracks remind me of psychedelic Who and a little Procol. Great crime pop comp, though it’s missing at least one track: “LSD”.
My local stations ran both the Spider-Man '67 series and the Filmation DC Comics series (it started with Superman and Aquaman, and soon became a catch-all place for many characters, including Hawkman, Green Lantern, The Flash, and The Teen Titans). Unfortunately, the animation quality for the Filmation DC Comics series wasn't that good, it was basically just functional and uniform across all of the Filmation series.
These are much cleaner looking than I remember watching back then. They usually had that dark, film grain look
The '60s Spider-Man cartoons were the John Romita version of the character... imagine if they'd made the cartoons a couple years earlier what a more Steve Ditko based show might've been like. Okay, still limited animation budget, so perhaps not that much different. Still, if I read a Spider-Man comic it's that voice I hear! I probably liked Aquaman cartoons for the bits where he sends out hypno circles to the fish! B-toom... so psychedelic! "Greeeeen circles" Ronnie Lane sings!
I haven't watched these since I was about 13. I would not have noticed much of a difference back then, but thinking back, I did find some of them felt more dreary and dark than others. I might have to go back and sample one from each of those eras.
The music was great. I think most of it, if not all, of it was prerecorded library music, aside from the theme song. There are playlists, on Spotify and other streaming services, of the library tracks used on the show. EDIT: er, nevermind, I see this topic was already covered. The music came from the KPM library.
That would be a cool release. Years ago they did a official release of the library music used in Dawn of the Dead. So there was no Goblin. I bet a few movies or shows have had the same.
There has been a few collections of the library music George Romero used for Night of the Living Dead.
