I picked up a live recording of a full performance of Penderecki's Utrenja on vinyl, cheap. The Shining mostly pulls excerpts from it.

It's definitely some unsettling stuff, best listened to with the lights off.

 

There’s some obvious ones but Rudiger by Mark Knopfler is pretty chilling.

 

I'm six years old. Living in West St. Paul, Minnesota. It's late at night and I have my little AM transistor radio stuffed under my pillow listening to KDWB, and suddenly this **** comes on.....

I AM THE GOD OF HELLFIRE AND I BRING YOU....

Scarred, damaged, never the same since. This song still creeps me out.

The swampy creole voodoo world that Dr John creates here is terrifying on a lonely late night listen.

Fun for all the family. Not one to listen to in the dead of night if you aren't expecting the screaming!

 

The Teddy Bears’ Picnic. Don’t know who sang it, but played a lot on BBC Radio Junior Choice circa 1970.

 

Henry Hall and his Orchestra, with uncredited vocalist Val Rosing. From 1932, this was also used as a technical test record by BBC engineers for decades due to its dynamics and definition.

 

This one gives me the delicious ghost story chills, an all time favourite:

Jane's Addiction: Chip Away from the self-titled live album. The drums and Perry's vocalizations just scare the heck out of me everytime.

I agree. Went to find it on youtube but failed.

 

As a 12 year old in 1968 I used to hear this every day on the school bus radio...a scary song to get me ready for another scary day of junior high! Another song in that vein..."People Are Strange" by the Doors...This was on KFXM out of San Bernardino.

 

Their version of Je T’Aime was even worse

 

As an adult on recommendation I tried out The Litanies of Satan by Diamanda Galas. I made the mistake of taking a stab at it at about 1:30am. I lasted about 6 minutes and went looking for a Bible.(disclosure- I have posted this in other threads. Obviously it made an impression). I cannot remove from my thinking that something malevolent was working through Ms. Galas.

 

This really illustrates the fine line between creepy and badass.

 

Ok, couldn't find those but this thread is screaming for Donny and Marie, unearthed this grim relic:

Side 4 of the white album. it feels sinister the entire way through.....revolution 1, honey pie, savoy truffle, cry baby cry, revolution 9.....and the ultimate creepy ending of 'good night'. it was very unsettling as a kid to listen to....

 

That is just so wrong in so many ways.
