The new Yazz Ahmed La Saboteuse is out this week, and it's a good one. Shabaka is in the mix along with some other really good players. They've been releasing it on the digital streamers in four chapters over the last few months, and now it gets the full physical release on CD and 2-LP gatefold on Naim Records. This was mentioned in the Jazz Beat thread earlier today: Kalaparusha Maurice McIntyre: Humility In The Light Of Creator Kalaparusha Maurice McIntyre - Humility in the Light of the Creator (Alternate) 1969
I've really been enjoying this one. I'm a bit bummed to have missed out on the first vinyl pressing--before the album was even released! She may have the most consistently beautiful trumpet tone I've ever heard.
Yea, I have it preordered for the vinyl release next week, what's different about the first pressing? Was it something special? I shoulda paid more attention, but I've been enjoying it a lot too and figured I better get the vinyl ordered. I was gonna order it a long time ago too, but you obviously know how that goes
No differences that they're indicating--just that it will be more than another entire month before the next pressing is scheduled to go out. I really, really dislike pre-ordering anything. I'll happily order on release day, but I really didn't expect this to sell out before release.
I am wondering if a good amount of ECM titles would be up for discussion...def. from a very European slant, but the early stuff is very cosmic.
Just saw that McCoy Tyner is playing in NYC at the Blue Note on the 30th & 31st this month. Anyone see him perform lately? I think I'll go!
I abhor the 'Spiritual Jazz' moniker, but there's tons of good stuff that fits the bill on this list: freeform.org : Kozmigroov Konnection (cosmic jazz groove)
I hear you, but it is no worse than "alternative", "post punk", "smooth jazz" etc. What would you prefer/ Thanks for the link!!!
