To be as accurate as possible, they don't mention Steve. That's a Kevin Gray work !

    from the website:
Remastered and cut by Kevin Gray at AcousTech Mastering in conjunction with Donald Fagen, Walter Becker and original Aja engineer Elliot Scheiner from the Original Analog Master Tapes.

Still sounds like a winner to me!

Hmmmmm. This is very interesting. Kevin Gray mastered American Woman for Cisco and that sounds phenomenal. Looks like i'll be buying yet another Aja.

Wow - sorry. I merely saw Kevin's name and RTI, etc - and automatically thought I saw Steve's name also.

Well, I pre-ordered anyway - should sound great.

If a Gort can update the thread title it would be nice. Thanks.

As stated on Acoustic Sounds' web site:

    I won't!

Now, as one who is not a hardcore vinyl expert, is there likely to be an appreciable difference between the 180-gram and 200-gram vinyl?

Wait a minute. The 200-gram issue looks to be a Japanese import from Universal. Acoustic Sounds does not state that this edition is mastered by Kevin Gray.

I just ordered the 180-gram version.

Seeing as I don't even like Steely Dan I only ordered one copy.

I have several titles on Cisco Records. The Ian and Silvia stuff is really really good. Doc Watson also. Linda Rondstadt is absolutely kiler.

    This could really be excellent.

Wow arent we living in great times? :)

    Wow! :goodie:

This is incredibly awesome. Was hoping for some decent re-releases of The Dan on vinyl... wasn't sure about those ones coming out from Universal in Japan. This is practically a sure thing!

Saw them live on May 25th in Philly, now I have something else to look forward to!

    Terrific! :goodie:

Yes and No. Some claim the heavier vinyl can be quieter but it's a mixed bag as some have found 200 gram quality control to be iffy at RTI.

What I find interesting here is the stink Roger Nichols made once upon a time about the use of the original analog masters over the "newer" digital masters.

    http://www.granatino.com/sdresource/18crime.htm

Having said that, my favorite cd version of Aja is the MFSL, which of course comes from the inferior "old" analog tapes. I wonder what Nichols would think of the use of those tapes for this project.

(funny I was just at the Steely Dan show last night!)

Of course! We are in complete agreement. I can't wait to get this, especially with a new turntable on the way!

I would just like to know the behind the scenes thought processes from the Steely Dan / Roger Nichols / Kevin Grey camps, considering Nichols' hard line on this in past.

I thought the master tapes were gone. Isn't that the excuse they used for not doing the 5.1? I will buy this but I would love to get a dvd-audio version.

Sounds like the multitracks are gone, not the stereo masters.

I think it was only multitrack session tapes that were (are?) missing, not the stereo mixdown master.

If I'm wrong, I'm sure I'll be corrected.

    (Jamie beat me to it.)
    :)
