Apparently my last response was deleted for “name calling.” My apologizes to Mr. Fremer so I’ll rephrase. Mr Fremer’s ego may be a little hard to take sometimes but he knows a great deal about turntables and the proper way to set them up. He reviews all levels of vinyl playback hardware and software and does a great job.

Consumer Reports position is that all equipment that measures the same sounds the same. They even extend that philosophy to loudspeakers. That position is easily demonstrably untrue even using double-blind listening tests. I don’t want to read a publication that merely confirms the equipment measures up to spec and has these features. Stereophile has subjective writing and measurements if you know how to read them.

It would be a big loss if Stereophile folded.

Peter Aczel! Right. The late Peter Aczel had a magazine called The Audio Critic. Peter Aczel made a big deal of an up and coming new speaker company called Fourier. Peter Aczel brought his readers all the Fourier news fit to print before the product launched. When the product launched Peter Aczel reviewed the Fourier speaker and said it was probably the greatest speaker ever! PETER ACZEL OWNED OR WAS PART OWNER OF FOURIER SPEAKERS BUT OF COURSE HE NEVER TOLD THAT TO HIS READERS. So really the BIGGEST fraud in audio ever, was Peter Aczel. So you believe him....good for you. By the way he absolutely HATED vacuum tubes and records. A rigid, self absorbed putz who was quick to attack others...

Stereophile is a money making, successful magazine with an enormous online presence. All is fine.

"Stereophile and related sites Sold: Layoffs have begun". Whoever wrote that header is a clown. A few people were laid off "have begun" is nonsense.

Your right, it would be a loss to the audio industry.

Although I had a falling out with them I still have every issue from January 93 to January 2015 and must admit I learned much and enjoyed most every issue, even some of Fremers stuff.

Not surprised by Lavorgna being let go. He spent to much time reviewing gear most can’t afford, and talking about musicians that only he and Stephen Mejias have heard of.

The millennials like good sound, but what they are missing is the middle-class ennui and conspicuous consumption habits of the boomers. Those two things made high-end audio a viable industry.
Furthermore, unlike the past, the reality today is that good sound can be had on the cheap. USB DAC, a little tripath amp, bookshelf speakers: done. And if you're practical, that can be your one-and-done system. If you're really practical, you buy the stuff second-hand and dust it off. Again, that practical sensibility isn't going to sustain the industry.

So you are prejudiced against “aging white men”. That’s no different from people who are against women.
