I've understood that we cannot look forward to our hosts 'Adventures in mastering..." anymore but this thread is to see if we can put together a list of links to all of the threads with this subject.

For example I've tried to find a thread about the work of mastering The Doors s/t for DCC but without luck. If we all pitch in, it'll be a very valuable source of information about all our favourite recordings :)

I've even done printouts of our hosts text to store together with it's disc to have ready when doing long sessions of listening.

Anyway I'll go first with the ones that I've found so far:

I had a chance to read through a few of these, they are absolute gold for audiophile geeks.

Anyone know why Steve is not doing these anymore? Is he retiring?

I think we should let Steve say exactly why if he chooses to. But it's along the lines of I think he was just getting too many confrontational comments and what was suppose to be a fun thing and for us to peek into instead got turned into a disection of every little thing he said.

Anything else that he wants to comment on concerning this is his choice. Dont blame him if he doesn't.

Having said that, pretty cool thread! :)

My favourite is the one about Wheels of Fire. Which just happens to be my favourite DCC gold disc.

My favourite DCC aluminium disc is the Chris Montez.

Whew...it's just the threads, not that is going to stop his work with AF among others. That's the good news.

Too bad about the commentary and stories...

Is this thread going to be "pinned" forever? If not, then why not just use Search.

Hopefully it'll be pinned, at least that's what I hope for.

First of all, not all threads about 'adventures in mastering' is labelled 'adventures in mastering'; thus a search will not find all of these threads. There's a lot of threads about our hosts work that I've stumbled over that I cannot find anymore.

But I agree, it's going to have to be pinned to be really useful.

    EDIT: And now it's a sticky :)

It's also very sad that this forum lost Barry Diament a few months back due to similar circumstances.

I wish someone could find (if they still exist) the threads where Steve just left the topic open to questions about various masterings he did for DCC, etc. I recall after joining in 2006 for a couple of years I found those threads fascinating. I've since collected some of the CDs mentioned, so I'd love to be able to go back and read about what he did, but try and I might, I can never find them. Surely there was nothing proprietary in them or he wouldn't have posted in the first place.

I don't understand the problem with Steve's input on the mastering process. I really love to read about the process regarding various upcoming releases. This is a wonderful marketing thing for us who still care about physical records and it gets me curious about stuff I never heard before. I really hope that Steve with his experience and love for music will not be abolished from discussing his work and exciting anectodotes. Don't let the threadcrappers win. There is a lot of people whom follow this Forum because of the exclusive information we happily receive here.

Not only should Steve's post on this subject continue, he should write a book.

    There, I said it.

After getting home from work today, I checked my PC for old threads I've bookmarked. Here are a couple of things I've found. Although they aren't officially "Adventures in mastering" threads, they are similar and interesting.

Fleetwood Mac "Rumours" vinyl mastering & equalization notes from SH.

Steve's comments on his 1985 mastering of Steely Dan's Aja

I also found the following two thread that were interesting:

The True Story of the "INTO THE MYSTIC" mixing goof on Van Morrison's MOONDANCE album
(I wish I could find the thread in which Steve discussed his actual mastering of the album).

EQ SUGGESTIONS FROM SH to help the sound of Canada Beatles "HELP" - "RUBBER SOUL" CDs
This one isn't about Steve's mastering pe se, but it was still interesting.

I also found the following three threads, which no longer show up on searches. When I searched with Google, they were referenced in a thread about favorite DCCs and it was mentioned they were moved to the FAQ section, but I can no longer find it either. Anyway, I'll post them here with their old links in case they weren't actually deleted but just got lost in the shuffle of the forum software change, so maybe the Gorts can resurrect them. They were full of fascinating information about many of the discs we know and love.
