Uh... I cancelled my CC order this morning, then when I saw that Music Space only had cassette, I called CC and re-ordered. They said 3-5 weeks, but the backorder time has changed since I ordered it.

    Perhaps I'll call Music Space.

Thanks to everyone. I just called MusicSpace too. They said only casette. So I called Collector's Choice and placed an order with them even though it's "3-5 weeks." Free shipping, anyway, and I picked up the Tom Verlaine as well. Thanks again to everyone. Maybe I'll get it by spring.

Telarc CD-10501. 1985. The booklet copy says no limiting or compression, so set the playback level "slightly higher." Also specs the vocal mics as Neumann U-47, no synthesizers (I think they mean that no acoustic or electric instrument was replicated by synths, but there's definitely a synth at the "aaahh!" break in "Good Vibrations"), and most of the album recorded at Studio One at United Western, where "many of the original Beach Boys' songs were recorded." Among the background singers credited are Dean Torrence, Mike Love, Gerry Beckley (of America), and Minny Others. IIRC, Mike sings the bridge on "Wouldn't It Be Nice."

BTW, "Good Vibrations" was the cartridge tracking torture test on the Telarc "Omnidisc." That synth eruption after "aaahhhh!" got the best of every cartridge I had until I got the Shure V15 Type V MR.

OK, Got my package from Music Space today and...guess what....there was the cassette in the box.......nice to know you can even speak to a human being and order the CD...and she tells you shes ordering the CD for you and gives you the total price for the CD and what do they send you ...the cassette......Called them right back on the phone and .....guess what....no CD's in stock. Great...Imagine how excited I was to see the package in the mailbox and then to open it and find a cassette....One thing I found was weird...when the girl answered the phone she answered it as "Razor & Tie", not musicspace..she said they were the same/affiliated companies..so I guess if musicspace don't have this CD who does? Just thought I'd pass on this wonderful experience so no one else deals with the same problem.

One of the Indian casinos here had the Pet Sounds concert with full orchestra----first they had the orchestra by itself doing Wilson compositions (orchestrated by Van Dyke Parks) then Brian and band doing The complete Pet Sounds album with orchestra, then a long set of beach boys classics with the Wondermints. It was around three hours, altogether. He was a personable master of ceremonies, introducing the songs in his quirky manner. It sounded great as we were pretty close, but I imagine the sound was blurred in the back of the arena. Sure never thought I'd ever see Brian doing Pet Sounds in it's entirety!

One thought I had about the concert: The backing band, the Wondermints, sure looked like they died and went to heaven. You could see that they were fullfilling their life's dream, and their enthusiasm helped propel the music into another realm.

the final encore was Love and Mercy, done very simply.

Hmmm, I'd like to put Van Dyke Parks and Mike Love (not war) in the same room and let 'em have a duke 'em out... I'm with Mikey, Mikey Bo-Bikey on the kookiness VDP brought to the Beach Boys with his peculiar lyrical bent...

It would be funny if Van Dyke Parks made an album with Mike Love singing all the songs.

Thanks Monoman - but unfortunately they only ship inside the US, so no good for me but good luck to those who can get it.

Anyone have any ideas how I might get a copy in the good old UK please? Pretty please?? :D

    Time Life says 'backorder'.

I ordered mine from Collector's Choice and am starting to think that the well may have dried up for everybody. Backordered everywhere.

Does Razor & Tie have the rights to press more?

Anybody double-order and pick up an extra for me? ;)

I just received a "cancellation" email from CC Music. The title was "discontinued by the vendor" and my order was cancelled. Razor And Tie does not list any available Beach Boys titles at the moment. AB Sound and HMV do not have this one. Even EBAY is dry. Can anyone point me in the right direction to get a copy of Steve's Beach Boys collection? :(

Man, almost everything Steve has done has been wiped out of the market!

If major labels were smart, they would've used his masterings instead of going out and paying a boatload to somebody to do something "modern." Yeah, you know what I'm talking about. Jackson Browne, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Prestige jazz, Van Halen...

Oh well. I'm sure this thing is around somewhere. It's a drag, but, I mean, the Beach Boys' Razor & Tie set I did WAS in print for 7 years. That's a long time ya know!

deepdiscountcd has surprised me before by coming through with out of print titles. My copy of this Beach Boys set has been on backorder with them for about 6 weeks now, though; who knows if they'll actually get it in but it seems kind of doubtful if the etailer directly connected with R&T doesn't have any.

Come to think of it, I also ordered the Buddy Holly FTOMT from HMV and that's on B/O too. Hope it comes through.
