Keith, How did you come up with .8. Just curious as I have been wondering about this for some time as well as Steve's comment that it is the only slope that actually occurs in nature.

    Steve,

Did you have to make any alterations on the Jolson Brunswick Rarities LP?

Great album. No, just straight transfers. Can't remember what was on there but it was sure fun to do.

Hi Steve. Just got a copy of the Ray Charles "Genius + Soul = Jazz" on DCC. What does the "Digitally rebalanced by Ray Charles" credit mean? And what role did Terry Howard play in the mastering? Reason I ask about the dual mastering credit is because I'm used to seeing only your name as mastering engineer. Thanks :)

Oh, and the disc sounds awesome, btw

Ray, Terry and I did that, sitting side by side in Ray's studio. A fun week..

Steve - would you happen to know what the compression ratio is that they used on The Beatles records over at Abbey Road for the cutting masters?

No idea. Set on "stun" most likely.

    4am is good news/bad news.......it's quiet and you can get a lot done without interruptions.....but it's also 4am!!!!! I've been there, Steve.

Mastering question. When cutting an LP from different song masters, are they editted into a single tape to cut the acetate "disc at once"?

    Three ways to do it:

Edit all the songs together in proper order from master reels.

Use two machines, each set up correctly and go back and forth, live, cutting a side.

Make a 30 ips 1/2" flat safety and cut from that.

I've done it all three ways.

I guess it depends on the tapes. How was the DCC Pet Sounds done?

Preparation to lacquer cutting from multiple sources

Steve, do you recall if all 4 sides of the 2 DCC LPs of Linda Ronstadt's Greatest Hits were prepared by just one of these methods...or was it a combination? Any details in this area would be interesting to learn.

Interesting. It never occurred to me that they would have done that. How common was this practice?

I think I invented it. Yikes, what a pain.
