Resonances most likely. Back when I had ARC hybrid preamps, I found they sounded more relaxed, less tense, with the top cover removed. On the other hand, when I had an ANK DAC 3.1 I thought it sounded better with the top cover ON. So who knows?

My Meishu Silver Phono that I used to have sounded better with the top cover on. I don’t think that I have compared my M6 Phono with and without the top cover.

Jeff Day has an article about the prototype field-coil driver Es AN is currently testing:

Audio Note (UK) Prototype Field-Coil Loudspeakers! - Jeff's Place

    Here's a quote from Peter Q:

“… the first prototype of a field-coil version of the AN-E is ready. It is a fairly rough approximation of what it will eventually become, but it already beats pretty much all the permanent magnet versions of the AN-E we make, so there is no question that the field-coil is a massive game changer, well at least within our world as it stands.”

Very interesting, thanks for sharing. Sounds expensive though!

PS. Is Daniel Peter’s son? I did not know he had a son if it is?

Yeah I read that, a lot of words, few of them about the speakers; he grows more difficult to read by the day :tiphat:

now I wonder what system he has? He’ll be a lucky boy if he inherits the business from PQ! Hell, he’ll be very lucky if he only gets his dad’s system!

    Guys,
I just wanted to say thank you for your help a few weeks ago, deposit placed on a Jinro. I can't wait to get my hands on it. Covid lockdown will undoubtedly cause a few logistics challenges. Not least as I was supposed to move into a new house next week which is now on hold :-(

My next challenge is a nice new DAC. Have any of you compared Lampizator DACS with Audio note DACS in the context of an Audio Note system?

    Thank you

How would one compare it to a Transport+DAC? Level 5? Or is that an apples and oranges question?

unfortunately, nothing compares to Audio Note Level 5 stuff ... except of course Level 5! there is just something very special with their top tier equipment. you know it when you hear it and you never forget it.

sorry, just meant that if the new player is called a 5.1x, should one think of it as comparable to a CDT-5 + DAC 5? I suspect not.

No, AN rate it as level 3 on their website.

At the same time, the CD 4.1x (on the website) says both: "Level Three Integrated Red Book CD Player" and "fulfils [sic] all Audio Note (UK) Level 4 criteria".

i had a conversation with Peter on the 5.1X player. i believe it will be a Level 4 product. but i did notice they said it was a Level 3 on the website so maybe i am wrong? he also mentioned they want to do a Level 5 single box player but would obviously is a massive undertaking and there may not be the demand ... so unsure on that. but who knows, it would be nice to see a Level 5 single box!

once i get the new price list i can confirm.

Here’s a question for Finn and others who are experienced with upgrading AN gear. When you upgrade the internal chassis wiring in an AN DAC or preamp, do you ever use AN silver Litz hookup wire?

Hifi Collective in the UK sells two versions (23 strand and 31 strand) which they say is actually the same conductor used in the AN-Vx interconnect. The hookup wire would be considerably less expensive than a finished AN silver interconnect cable like the Vx.

Today I picked up the interconnect and digital cables - AN-Vx - and Arm3. Listening now and I am in musical heaven.
