    Hi all.
I have some questions for Roman about retipping a few of my cartridges, but as a new member I cannot send PM. If you read this Roman, can you reach out?

[MOD: You need to make several posts n Music/Visual/Equipment forums before the Conversation option kicks in. Keep posting!]

    Hi guys,
I joined this forum because of Roman and his magnificent work.. Thanks Roman!
I just counted all possible "group buy" orders and I came to 21 without me ( 5 pcs ).. Roman will probably take some too.
Any news about it? Any new candidates maybe?
    Cheers from Croatia

Our esteemed @Warren Jarrett coordinated the first buy and didn't up-charge, only cost and a small amount for shipping . So he really went over and beyond in my opinion and I thank him, considering the time and effort it took. I know there wasn't as much interest the second time around but maybe he'd reconsider again.

I am going to start a new post about his Group Buy for Namiki. It will not be in the equipment forum, so you will have to look foir it. if everyone would like to alert their orders to me there, , and we get up to at least 100 confirmed units, I would be very happy to order that many again. it was a lot of work keeping track of everybody's orders, so that is why I have not been so excited about repeating the offer.

By the way, Namiki is a subsidary of Adamant mining company, that still mines Boron and also mines diamonds. Then, Namiki uses these materials to make various items for specialized industries. including for audio: diamond Micro-Ridge stylus and Boron cantilever, in fact the ONLY company in the world still making Boron cantilevers, and the inventors (patent holders) of the Micro Ridge stylus shape. So I am quite exzcited about more of us having these, and Roman installing some of them for us.

Hi Warren, I would like to be included in the group buy for 3 boron stylus/cantilever combo's. I tried to post in the 3d party sales forum but it says I have insufficient privileges. Thank you for taking this on a second time, Paul

Im curious to peoples opinions on retipping an Ortofon VMS, I currently use a VMS30MkII, but I also have an FF15XE MkII with a bent cantilever and missing diamond. Seeing the work done here, I could see cutting the cantilever and using whats left to hold one of these Namiki boron cantilever & diamond MR stylus as it is smaller in diameter, it could slide right inside and be bonded.
I understand that there are replacement stylus for these, however they are greatly inferior to the VMS30 and trying to find NOS VMS30 at a reasonable price is like pulling teeth.
Would there be a potential upgrade from the VMS30?
I would be curious to hear from not just Warren and Roman but also others that have been following this thread.

While this is popping back up...

What're folks thoughts on how many times can a cartridge can be retipped before it's compromised?

Same as others unable to post in Marketplace, I’d be up for 3 cantilevers in the group buy.

Well now Im really interested in whether this is a viable adventure, I dropped a record when changing sides tonight and bent the cantilever on my VMS30, I had this for less than a month. NOS, it sounded incredible, well compared to my VMS20 and Ortofon 2M Blue.

Indefinite number of times. So long as the suspension is good and the retipper is careful, you can do it over and over again. If you're just replacing the diamond on the cantilever, geez, could do that again and again and again. Suspensions are generally pretty hardy, especially with lower compliance cartridges like most moving coil cartridges. The really high compliance cartridges, usually not moving coil, are the ones that have shown hardening over time with related negative effects on tracking--and certainly not all. Most cartridges/styli with this problem have been well identified. Certain Shure models (V15 Type IV--and not even all V15 Type IV), certain Sonic/Sonus models (Gold Blue), and later B&O MMC, and with the B&O, it's not really the elastomer that goes bad, but the glue that holds the rubber to the cartridge or the microcross. Other than that, I think it's pretty random depending on storage conditions. Most cartridges are kept indoors in a nice stable climate-controlled environment and in the dark except if mounted. This is how you want to store rubber.

Low compliance cartridges like DL-103 for example, or Koetsu, they go forever. Some oddballs seem to always have suspension failure--Kiseki is one that comes to mind. I think this is why finding a used Kiseki is not so easy to do (omitting the new NS models).

I inquired about being able to post in the Marketplace. A person has to post in the forums 50 times before that is allowed. I am still in for 3 boron cantilevers when/if the group buy goes through. Thanks, Paul

    Hi Warren,

Is it possible to include in this group buy diamond Micro-ridge stylus and diamond cantilevers?

    Thanks

No, they did it once for me because they were just making a batch. But they insisted that one was for my evaluation only and they would not allow it again without a 50 unit minimum, at $800 each (volume and industry distributor discount). I used it on a simple Denon 103D (probably should have saved it for a Koetsu or some super cartridge). But it totally transformed the Denon 103D into a super cartridge. All of the wonders of that particular cart (which is not at all like a 103 or 103R) plus added speed, detail, a gigantic sound stage size, and razor sharp imaging.

In fact I like that cart SO MUCH, and it is so much a one-of-a-kind, that after a few weeks of listening, I put it away, and don't plan to EVER put more hours on it. Its a waste of a very good thing, I know, but I started to feel too much guilt using it.

LOL! I have a few of those, one of them a rare Shinon Titan that uses the Sony figure 8 coil generator, the same one the Madrigal Carnegie was based on. Shame to see it get all used up...:yikes:

Funny, when I removed my 103D custom (diamond cantilever and MR stylus), the cart I put in next is a Shinon Red.

  25. Has anyone heard from Roman? I had been in contact with him direct email.. to set up doing some work on 2 Audio Technica stylus'...
but my last emails have gone un-answered - and direct message within this forum as well. Was going to ship him
the work to do last month ..but now I fear the service is gone?
