Many say a sub should be placed in the corner (yes, there’s also the bass crawl). Then those who want to acoustically treat their room say place bass traps in the corner. Ain’t the both of this a little confusing? Can anyone help clarify this for me?

My room is about medium small and due to space constraint, the sub location is compromised. I can’t do the sub crawl.

should be room for both, subs in the corner does not mean pushed into a corner as far as it will go. a corner location is a general proximity as opposed to centered on a wall.
too close to the actual corner, less than 12 in or so can create peaky one note bass. use your ears, test tones and measuring apps to find the best actual position in the corner.
bass traps typically do not become effective until higher bass frequencies, e.g. 60 hz and above. corners do work well because this is where bass standing waves accumulate in a room.
    room for both.
