Which singer in that band was successfully replaced by someone else?

And none of them were replacements.

    I could go on!

Just read the topic. Odd when the OP doesn't match the topic.

But a thread's title is somewhat limited by space considerations as far as how descriptive it can be.

What is more odd is when people don't bother to read the OP and abide by the criteria it sets, and just plow forward (while simultaneously not bothering to do a search to see if their terribly original contribution hasn't been already mentioned — but that's another subject).

A lot of that going on in this thread. Without the "replacement" proviso (clearly outlined in the OP's second paragraph), this is just another "bands that had more than one member who sang a lead vocal" thread, and we've already had plenty of those.

I think it was pretty clear from my phrasing I was just making a slightly humorous non offensive comment here. Yes I made that slightly humorous comment without first reading the OP to ensure it was on topic.

Even if you found it less entertaining than I did, do you find this level of discussion more entertaining?

Or do you feel this thread has some higher value than entertainment that I am polluting?

I guess I have a different definition of "humorous" than you do.

I also didn't see any entertainment value in "Just read the topic. Odd when the OP doesn't match the topic."

I apologize for my lack of appreciation for your valuable contributions.

It sounds like you did not scroll 3 posts up to read the post I was replying to where my original comment was quoted. So you kind of did the same thing as I did, coming into a discussion midstream without knowing what it was about.

Except I was trying to be funny in a non offensive way and you were trying to enforce a norm on social media without being a moderator.

OP here. interesting debate, and yes i was looking for bands that had the same level of success with a replacement vocalist.

    VH
    Genesis
    AC DC

these were the only bands that i was thinking about as i posted. thanks to all!

Anyone named the Foundations? Their two hits ("Baby Now That I've Found You" and "Build Me Up Buttercup") had a different lead singer; one replaced the other.

Journey (Steve Perry & Arnel Pineda)

No way Ariel Pineda is considered successful, just because he can sound like Steve perry doesn’t mean he can write the songs that perry did....guy is just an American idol contestant...

Were they very successful without Cronin? I'm not a major historian on REO Speedwagon.

Other ht singles with replacement singers:

The Supremes-- At least three hits with Jean Terrell singing lead.

The Miracles-- "Love Machine" with their post-Smokey singer.

Pure Prairie League-- "Aimee" with Craig Fuller; "Let Me Love You Tonight" with Vince Gill.

The Kingsmen-- The singer of "Louie Louie" was replaced right afterward.

He had an album that went platinum. In 2008, no less. That's successful enough.

The Temptations were mentioned earlier, but they may be the only group who had hits with a replacement singer (Dennis Edwards, numerous ones) and then with the replacement's replacement (Ali-Ollie Woodson, "Treat Her Like a Lady")

Well, that may be, but something can be successful without being remembered.

If we stretch the scope of this thread a little, Brooks and Dunn went from Ronnie and Kix alternating vocals (maybe 60-40 in favor of Dunn) to Ronnie Dunn doing vocals on all of their singles. Not surprising when you see how their respective songs fared on the country charts. (Of their many #1 country hits, only "You're Gonna Miss Me When I'm Gone" had Kix Brooks on lead.)

Survivor - Dave Bickler until 1983, and then Jimi Jamison. Bickler was back when the group re-formed in the nineties, and then was replaced with Jamison again, and then both were in the group for a while.

Wasn't Woodson the last surviving original member?

No, that's Otis Williams. Woodson I believe replaced Edwards who replaced Ruffin. None of the originals save Paul WIlliams had died by this point.
