A thought for everyone: Wouldn’t it be cool if Criterion could start a division in association with the library of Congress ? They can go into all of the vaults and scour them for every bit of film that will never be restored and restore it for future use.
I actually emailed Criterion some months back and suggested Master of the Flying Guillotine. They probably ignored me...but, man, that film deserves to be properly restored and preserved! Urban Cowboy ("I love ya, Sissy!") Back in the USSR Used to watch this on cable quite a bit in the early 90's - great little film; can't find a US release anywhere. Fast Times at Ridgemont High Hey, they just announced The Breakfast Club for Jan 2, 2018, so why not this 80's classic? Stand By Me ("Aw, pi$$ up a rope!")
Midnight Cowboy The Magnificent Ambersons Over The Edge Cloak and Dagger Foul Play The Parallax View Death To Smoochy Grease 2 And can we get 'Sisters' on bluray please????
That's crazy. And pretty awesome! You got your wish. The Breakfast Club (1985) - The Criterion Collection
Thanks for letting me know about this, guys! The defining film of my teenage years. Looks they've got good supplemental stuff.
Just to name a few off the top of my head... Andrei Rublev - Tarkovsky Performance - Nicolas Roeg The Valley of the Bees - František Vláčil Touch of Evil - Orson Welles The Magnificent Ambersons - Orson Welles The Devils - Ken Russell Zabriskie Point - Antonioni Amadeus - Forman ...and particularly anything (and preferably everything in a boxset) directed by Béla Tarr Werkmeister Harmonies The Turin Horse Autumn Almanac The Man from London Satantango Damnation
Thanks for the update JoeD! Ireally think Criterion is the best choice for remastering the Bruce Lee movies.
The films themselves probably wouldn't look much different with a Criterion release, the Shout Select versions (pictured above) are 4k scans from the negatives. See here: Fists Of Fury [Collector's Edition] - Blu-ray | Shout! Factory first sentence. That being said, I absolutely think these should be in the Janus/Criterion Collection. I'd be really nice if Criterion could license 'Enter The Dragon' from WB, too.
