The 12/31 date is definitely a placeholder - their website says they expect to release it before year-end, but their goal is to ship in November. They previously released a similarly-loaded limited edition steelbook of TENEBRAE that was excellent. This one should be even better. The 4K restoration has been playing in limited theatrical release around the US recently, but I was unable to make it when there were a couple of local midnight screenings recently.
Do you think Super Fly would be Criterion worthy? If not I'd still like a deluxe 2 discer with good features on Curtis Mayfield.
A Night At The Opera A Day At The Races I Am A Fugitive From A Chain Gang Rocky Ferris Bueller's Day Off One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest Chinatown Manhattan (the recent 4k restoration) Annie Hall Popeye (Just think of all the bonus features that could be created for this Altman film!) Blu upgrades of these would be most welcome in my home: The Red Balloon White Mane The Harder They Come
A big YES. Oh, if they could spruce up the master (if that's possible) I would be first in line (maybe scond? ) for it.
It's back! 50% Off All Criterion Collection titles now through November 30 at Barnes & Noble or BN.com.
Oh boy... looks like I'm going to have to dip into "da funds" and snatch up these Kubrick titles finally. Thank you for the head's up.
Sure. My system has been to raid the NYPL of as many CCs as I can watch and purchase my own copies of four or five of the best sets when the sale comes round.
Also in Feb. An Actors Revenge, Tom Jones, The Hero, Night of the Living Dead & Elevator to the Gallows.
I’ll echo some others here - would love to see “The Elephant Man”... Also would be cool to see Todd Haynes’ “Far From Heaven” and “I’m Not There”. Maybe “American History X” too, the black and white photography in it would look beautiful with a fresh 4K transfer.
I liked that BLISS from down under, as far as I know it was never released in North American formats.
Kevin Smith present Degrassi "School's Out"(1992) 4k from original camera negative. TV show was SD video, movie was film. Except for "Wheels", everyone is alive.
Just a reminder - 50% off all Criterion titles until Nov. 30. @ B&N. No musts for me get this season. May just browse the shelves for music related films sometime this weekend.
Double yes/like for The Passenger, a favorite of mine ever since a BBC Film Club screening which I ‘taped’ back in 1987 or so. Also how about Dead Man, Wild At Heart and a 50th Anniversary edition of 2001: A Space Odyssey?
Would love to see "Ironweed" on Criterion. Great performances by Jack Nicholson, Meryl Streep and Tom Waits.
The Naked Gun trilogy. If it were French they'd recognize it as the comedic fine art that it is. There is a BluRay of the trilogy but it is from very primitive transfers. And if Criterion did it they could include the mini-series Police Squad as a bonus.
I wish there was a Criterion edition for Cabaret. I can imagine great extras like a documentary about writer Christopher Isherwood.
American Movie (1999) The best making-of documentary ever made, maybe one of the most entertaining and narratively satisfying documentaries in general, absolutely hilarious and affecting in equal measure. Plus endlessly quotable. By the looks of the film probably shot on 16mm, totally deserves a Blu-ray.
"Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter and Spring". "Greed". It won't make a lot of money, but please...someone has to re-do the surviving elements in 4K and get this done. "The Browning Version" "The Hill" (I know I have typed in these titles before ) "The Best Years of our Lives"
The Wicker Man (the original Edward Woodward / Christopher Lee version, not the Nicholas Cage remake)
