Unfortunately old school record stores seem to be a dying breed.
I contribute to that by buying online, but when I go into most B&M stores, including Sunrise, I can’t find anything I’m interested in.

Well to be fair there's a pretty significant difference between a good B&M record shop and your typical Sunrise location. Sunrise seems more focused on Funko Pops than music nowadays.

I wish I had seen this thread because I went to Sherway today and was sad to see the signage and the staff inside packing. It's too bad, it was a nice store. Their selection for Blu-Rays was excellent and the music selection was okay overall.

I was with a friend (in the industry) last week and he told me that FYE (US) are the buyer for Sunrise in Canada.

Not sure why, but I think buyer for Sunrise up and quit.

Probably explains the Funko Pops focus. :)

When you google FYE record store, it shows there's one in the Eaton Centre in Toronto. Click on the link and it goes to the Sunrise website and under locations FYE Eaton Centre is listed.

Sunrise have owned FYE since 2020 Sunrise Records Acquires FYE From Trans World Entertainment | Billboard – Billboard

The Sunrise store in the Rideau Centre in Ottawa was rebranded as an FYE a while ago when it moved into a smaller store in the mall.

One of the two stores here in town has closed permanently, sadly.

Checked for several upcoming releases over the next few weeks. Prices are through the roof! Either they are heavily in debt to their suppliers or they want these CD's to sit on the shelf

Depeche Mode - Memento Mori - $20.99 (Sony)
Miley Cyrus - Endless Summer Vacation - $17.99 (Sony)
    Lana Del Rey - Tunnel/Ocean Blvd. - $17.99 (UMG)

Was in 3 different Sunrise stores in the past few days, 2 in Ottawa and one in Belleville and none had the Depeche Mode album in stock on either lp or cd.

    Amazon it is then......

The FYE store in the Rideau Centre in Ottawa is relocating again in the mall, I estimate that's around 5 different locations in the mall it's had since Sunrise took over from HMV!

Langley near Vancouver has had 3 in the past couple years.

My local Sunrise had 10% all CDs if you spend more than $50 and 15% off new vinyl if you spend over $100. Might be one of the only times they had a sale on general stock since taking over.

Has anyone been to Now and Then Records in Oshawa (or Kingston)? I went for the first time a couple of weeks ago and their selection and prices were far better than Sunrise's.

IIRC they are owned by the same owners as Sam’s in Belleville, but aren’t allowed to use the name Sam’s for those stores.

Although they have a good selection in Belleville I’ve always found it overpriced. They do sell a huge amount of EU grey market pressings as “special imports”

Ironically Sunrise in Belleville is probably one of the better Sunrises, the two stores are in the same mall and only meters from each other.

Yes, that’s right. And yes, a large amount of "imports". I got a 9-disc set of Lou Reed radio broadcasts for $30.

Lucky to have both places in the same mall!

I've been to the one in Oshawa a few times, but their selection & prices were just as sh*tty as Sunrise.

Hmm I didn’t find that to be the case, but perhaps we were looking for different things.

That is a usual Warner Music Canada price these days..... $21.99 for a new release

It is about $14.99 USD for this version from 2018 (which is a remaster)

You could have purchased the version from 1999 which is a bit cheaper.
