Sussudio: would've it been accepted if anyone but Phil Collins had sung it?

I for one am happy Peter did that. How else was I to discover the genius of Peter Gabriel? :agree:

Funny, I always imagine Phil Collins as a much younger man.

Really skippin' right over your head this week, isn't it...? This is twice you've expressed your "happiness for me" for a song you've managed to deride and insult without so much as a grain of substance about what it really irritating you about it, so, that's just disingenuous. But the real flaw here is...I'm not defending the song because I like it (which I do). I'm defending it because of stated opinions like yours, that don't seem to be really based on anything other than "everybody knows it's such a bad song, I can get away with jumping on the bandwagon".

Your criticisms have no teeth. Your backhanded high fives to me, ring insincere.
Your opinions, show no character. You're just taking a pinata stick to what you see as low-hanging fruit.

Take your torch and your pitchfork, and put 'em back it in the barn until some other mindless mob comes up with a really worthy cause for your witch-burnin'.

On the other hand, it was the 9th song used in the premiere episode of Miami Vice (a.k.a, MTV Cops ;) ). Surely somebody's got a misinterpreted significance here that doesn't really mean anything...?

If you get a good minestrone happening let me know ... there's nothing like a good old fashioned long cooked minestrone :)

But wow, the radio interview sure makes him appear older than he really is. "Just this side of doddering". :sigh:

He had a ton of health issues. I think retirement and falling into drinking too much almost killed him, according to his doctor.

It would been a pale, shameless rewrite of Prince's 1999 whoever did it.

I don't accept it in any form, especially when it is by Phil Collins

I didn't realize there was a bandwagon. Odd, you were just castigating me cause so many like your song, now you seem to be aware that numerous people don't. Meanwhile, I think I've provided as much substance as possible about a song written around a nonsense word, what more can one really say about a song they don't like?

The alcohol and being sedentary really aged him. Compare him to McCartney or Jagger who are almost a decade older.

People who have not read his book should do so. Especially the people who go beyond saying they don't like his music and veer into personal attacks. He had some pretty severe depression, which IMO led to the drinking, and I think a lot of it was caused by his reaction to all the horrible things people said about him. It's actually amazing he's still with us.

So he's kind of old and not that great-looking now...I think we already knew this without visual aids.

    Why Especially?
Surely you either like or don't like a song?
I really didn't like Culture Club, but I can accept that one of their songs is ok.
I don't go to Culture Club threads to slate the band and their music.
Why is hating Phil Collins some kind of sport around here?

Phil knew it sounded like Prince, so he played it for His Purple-ness himself. Prince gave him the go-ahead. Give the guy some slack. He wasn't, in general, a guy who plagiarized.

His (largely) dysfunctional relationships with women was also a contributing factor to his declining physical condition, not to mention a recurring theme in many of his ballads.
