I thought it was confirmed that 'Reaction In G' was never recorded in the studio... Or maybe Nick misremembered it? [Edit:] Okay, seems that I didn't know of that before. And it was leaked two years ago!
In case the session tapes are (still) in good condition. Someone should remix Saucerful with better sonic sound. Maybe Steven Wilson could do this.
That's the updated version, by Julian Palacios. http://atagong.com/iggy/media/Untangling the Octopus v3.pdf
But why doesn't the person with the tapes hand them over anyway? I'm also unclear who they belong to. I suppose they really are the property of the BBC.
I'd rather prefer if he quietly let it copy to the fans. With PF buying the tape it would continue to collect dust for the decades.
I suspect the only reason Early Years video section turned out so well it's because Ron Toon helped them and send them all bootleg videos for reference along with details from whom it should be licensed. Shame no one helped them with audio section. It seems they pulled certain tapes at random. Like Latham. Also Capitol 1968 session had been discovered about 2 years before Early Years so they were aware of this and had it included.
What I’m getting at is that perhaps Pink Floyd could not have bought the tapes from him - because if the tapes really belong to the BBC then they are not his to sell. And that is a possible explanation of why they went ahead and used bootleg copies. But do we know whether he offered the tapes free of charge or whether he asked for money? Yes i agree that once the Pinks have the tapes they may get buried. Perhaps he will only leak the tapes if he realises that he cannot ever sell them.
You're thinking too much into this. They are simply not interested. No one in the Floyd camp really care about that period. It was heavily discussed back in 2016 here. Also several bands had licensed recordings from this guy. From the same estate certain obscure band called The Beatles used tapes for their BBC release. You can locate all Floyd BBC recordings in great quality on bootlegs if you can use google for 20 minutes. Was is that hard to do for the archival team? Was is that hard to do to check Stockholm show which was mastered out of phase and had silence before Pow. R. Toh.H? Amateur fest.
Is it likely that unreleased Pink Floyd material would be included on a Syd Barrett release? I don't think so.
That should stay unreleased. Anyone who wants to check it out will find it other ways. I heard that a sample of that session was considered as a "hidden track" on Crazy Diamond box set and in the end they got rid of it. There's a still lots of interesting unheard stuff from 1968 - 1970 solo sessions. Particularly the reels on which David is sitting in.
If Introduction is indeed being re-released on CD and vinyl in 2021, it would be cool to have an accompanying series or box set of 7" singles on color vinyl....It could be almost like the "singles that never were." Maybe Octopus and Love You from Madcap, and Baby Lemonade and Dominoes from Barrett? Bob Dylan Blues as a bonus 5th single? The b-sides could be used to release 5 unheard outtakes.
