I really liked Lock Up and surprised it is not more well known.

I loved Rhinestone as a kid. Not sure how much it would hold up if I watched it now, but I remember thinking it was very funny.

Cop Land and Cliffhanger are the easy answers here.

I'm going for Nighthawks, Cop Land, Death Race 2000 and F.I.S.T.

I watch Nighthawks once a year. I love that film.

  4. Cobra
    Nighthawks
    Lock Up
    Tango & Cash
    Demolition Man

  5. Hagstrom

Hagstrom Please stop calling them vinyls.

I'm from Philly. The only answer to this is Rocky. Rocky cannot be excluded from anything. Rocky is everything.

I like the first Rocky... and the first Rambo (First Blood). Haven't seen a lot of movies on this list. I think I saw Tango & Cash which was really a movie of it's time.

I just noticed that Amazon prime has Cliffhanger available to Prime members. I saw that in the theaters in 1993 but barely remember it. I might have to revisit.

Apparently I have very mainstream taste - voted for two of the top three vote-getters:
    • Nighthawks
    • Copland

Not much to go on, to be honest:
    Cop Land
    Nighthawks
    FIST
    Flatbush
    Paradise Alley

    F*I*S*T, Cop Land, Cliffhanger . . .

I think the box office failure of F*I*S*T turned Stallone away from dramatic roles in serious movies and toward interchangeable, forgettable action fare.

I chose the following 5 films:

    Nighthawks
    Cobra
    Tango & Cash
    Cliffhanger
    Demolition Man

I also enjoyed Over The Top and Cop Land but they did not make the top 5 list. I would say the first three on my list may have been chosen for nostalgia reasons, I remember seeing them syndicated on TV a lot when I was a kid. Cliffhanger is just classic and Demolition Man is a great comedy movie that I still pull quotes from to this day.

An unbelievable absence of First Blood in this thread. A genuinely good film with a strange melancholy throughout. Sequels genuinely miss the point.

    - Rocky is unimpeachable. Sequels vary but none are top five.
    - Nighthawks is a decent neo-noir. Not perfect, but solid.
    - Cop Land is good, but again, not perfect.
    - Escape to Victory is braintape from my youth, and he's better when he plays fish out of water and a little bit vulnerable.

    Cop Land
    Nighthawks
    Cobra
    Lock Up
    Cliffhanger

This poll excludes the franchises hence the lack of discussion.

    That's a very astute observation.
