I usually will purchase music from any band I love without hearing any song first ;however, I rarely preorder. I prefer waiting till the release day to see who has the best deal as well as who has the most convenient deal. If I can avoid having things shipped to me then it's worth it even if I have to pay more.

Used to be Peter Gabriel when I was in my teens. Then 'So' (and all his following albums) happened. I guess I wonder whether an 'immediate-spring' is ever personally justified given the way that bands evolve in a usually more-commercial direction or after losing founding members?

For instance, where an initially amazing band or artist became a shadow of what it was, think post-Eat to the Beat Blondie, post-Scary Monsters Bowie, post-Boots Dury, post-Travelogue League, post-Quit Dreaming Nelson, post-Gabriel Genesis, post-Court King Crimson, post-Flowers PIL, post-Obscured (and perhaps post-Syd) Floyd, post-Siren Roxy, post-The Raven Stranglers, post-Sons Simple Minds, post-Foxx Ultravox, post-Pornography Cure, post-S/T Dire Straits, post-S/T Killing Joke, post-Organisation OMD, post-Exile Stones, etc.

But then there's Depeche Mode and Sparks, both of whom have evolved in ways one could never have imagined.

And then there is (was) The Fall...

There are lots of artists I would buy an album of new material "no questions asked".....but way more selective about archive and live album releases now.

Nobody anymore. It used to be the Rolling Stones but I decided I didn't really need everything they released a while ago, that and I don't even keep up with new releases anymore. Heck, I embarrassed myself the other day on this forum by saying that if the Rolling Stones ever released "Some Girls Live in Texas" as a CD it would be their best live CD. Then someone told me it was released on CD over a year ago.

One of the true unsung greats. IMO "A Hundred Lies" is one of the greatest songwriter records ever made, period.

Agree on lemonheads and evan. Question is, when will he ever release something again@?!?

Oh, and Radiohead and My Morning Jacket are on auto-order for me.

For several artists I will preorder without research, but for RH and MMJ I will, with aggressive ignorance, pre order anything they release.

Edit to add the Grateful Dead.

There used to be many, but I retired. Now, Spotify is my best friend.
I love rolling out of bed at 6 am the announced day of release and just firing up the computer. Only if it's great do I buy a copy, on vinyl if it is life-changing!
