    Steve,

Thanks for the additional bit of musical/recording history!

Any additions and/or comments to my "possibles" lists? I do not want to miss anything! I respect your knowledge.

    Bob :)

    Steve,

Coming from the Mastering Guru, that says a lot for the extent of the lists. Begining with 1960, I will be posting my lists one (1) year at the time because of the volume of titles. Thanks for taking a look!

    Bob :D

Hmmm, I'd vote for more Jack Scott on those comps! He scored a lot of Top 40 action in that period with great pounding rockabilly, and a lotta folks dig those ballads where Jack's deep voice goes down reaaaaaaal low... He also recorded a lot of material that's true stereo, but you'll want a spotless original set of lp's as the master tapes for those are MIA if you want twin guns-a-blazin'...

    Mike,

Thanks for jumping in. I have two Jack Scott tracks in my collection--My True Love and Burning Bridges, oh! yeah, and the track that is on Loud, Fast & Out of Control--Leroy.

Please post some other possible Jack "possibles" by year if you can.

    Bob:)

I love Leroy - Jack's best pounder, mono only from 1958; My True Love was the flip so you're ok there; Geraldine is another thumpy rocker from '58, and The Way I Walk is mid tempo RAB from 1958, too - this one is in stereo and was cleaned up by Tom Moulton on a comp called Rockabilly Essentials on Hip-O. Scoop up Scott's Carlton escapades on a decent sounding set from Roller Coaster in England called "Jack Scott - Te Way I Walk"; for you deep wallet completists, Bear Family did a monster boxed set covering Mr. Scott's long career...

I think the Isley Brothers' "Shout" was from 1959. It wasn't a big chart hit, but it had some regional success and obviously has taken on a life of its own since then. I would go with both Parts one and two from the DCC Toga Rock Volume 2 CD.

    Regards,

Jack Scott :righton: My favorite is "Goodbye Baby" peaking at BB #8 in early '59.

To follow up on something I mentioned earlier:
I pulled out my original edition of Brook Benton's It's Just a Matter of Time LP in stereo and played several tracks. While most of the album is in wonderful true stereo, the title song is NOT in stereo. I don't think it's the pure mono track as found on the 45; it appears to have had some light rechanneling done to it, even though this was 1959 and rechanneled LPs didn't really hit the market for another couple years.

    Bob,

    1957

Since the following songs debuted on the BB chart on 12/29/56, I suggest that they be moved from 1956 to 1957:

Young Love - - Sonny James

The Girl Can't Help It - - Little Richard

I'm going to do this in two parts, since I have had my typed post disappear twice

Now, for the possible additions to your list for 1957

Lucky Lips - - Ruth Brown

Around The World - - Victor Young Orch. (Steve's stereo DCC version)

Rock Your Little Baby To Sleep - - Buddy Knox

Goody Goody - - Frankie Lymon & The Teenagers

Ain't Got No Home - - Clarence "Frog man" Henry

Tell Me Why - - Norman Fox & The Rob-Roys (The beast version of this song, IMHO)

    Susie-Q - - Dale Hawkins (Steve's Vintage Music master w/o echo)

Banna Boat Day-O) - - Stan Freberg (You need some Stan Freberg on your tape, IMHO)

Just Because - - Lloyd Price

Little Darlin' - - The Gladiolas (What happened to the "no covers" rule ... just kidding ... the Diamonds version belongs on your tape, but you could include this version for contrast)

Rockin' Pneumonia & The Boogie Woogie Flu - - Huey Smith & The Clowns

A Thousand Miles Away - - The Heartbeats

I Wonder If I Care As Much - - The Everly Brothers (The flip of "Bye-Bye Love" and one of The EB's best, IMHO, even though it didn't chart)

Don't Ask Me (To Be Lonely) - - The Dubs

Tonite, Tonite - - The Mellow Kings

Spell check got a workout with these songs & artists. :)

    Ken,

Since Shout was released in 59' and finished it's chart run in 60', was leaning towards including the track in 1960. You have keenly anticipated a version question, whether I should use just Part 1 (single version) or Parts 1 & 2 (full length version)? Obviously, your vote would be for the full length version.

    Thanks!

    Bill,

Thanks! I discovered it yesterday when I was going through my Jazz CD's--where I keep Music For A Bachelor's Den In HiFi--the reason that I missed So Rare when I went through my Pop CD's in preparation of the lists.

    Thanks!

    Bob:)

    Thanks for the additions!

    Chip,

I printed out your "adds" for comment:

    1) Ruth Brown--an oversight on my part and yes, I will include some of her hits.

    2) I will move Young Love and The Girl Can't Help It to 1957.

    3) Additional Selections: All are worthy suggestions, although I did omit a few of the "too cute" songs because of personal preference (Playmates, Laurie London, etc)--busted again!

I have all of your additional suggestions except the following:

Tell Me Why--Norman Fox & the Rob Roys
Banana Boat (Day-O)--Stan Freiberg (I guess I should include a Stan track, hard to determine which one)
    Somebody Touched Me--Buddy Knox
    Swingin Shepherd Blues--Moe Koffman
    The Hula Hoop Song--Georgia Gibbs
    We Belong Together--Robert & Johnny
You Can Make It If You Try--Gene Allison
Rockhouse--Ray Charles with David "Fathead" Newman
    Just Keep It Up--Dee Clark
    Pretty Girls Everywhere--Eugene Church
    Tell Him No--Travis & Bob
    Lucky Ladybug--Billy & Lillie
You Cheated--Slades (I have not located it, as yet, I may have it)

    4) Lonely Teardrops is on my 59' list (Mono or Stereo), High School Confidential, Good Golly Miss Molly were also in my lists (no problem with repeats)

    5) Dance With Me--Drifters (I have both the Mono and Stereo versions). I was going to include it in 1960, although 59' might be better.

Chip, thank for all your many contributions!

    Bob

    Chip,

Guess what--I do need reminding! I have Vintage Music Vol 1 and 2. I have Ace's Golden Age Vol 4 & 8. Thanks for the source on the other two. It is indeed challenging to "not miss" everything that I have in my collection. The reminders help, very much.

    Thanks!

    Chip,

Great work!! Shimmy Shimmy Ko Ko Bop is on my list in bad sounding Stereo (argh!) I have all (thanks for the reminders!) except for Suzie Baby(I do remember it!), Shirley (I do not remember that one, was it a regional hit?) and Matilda. White Lightning is on the "maybe" list, may be a little too country. I put Linda Lu on my 1960 list. Should it be in 59? If so, I will amend accordingly.

    Continued thanks!

    Chip,

Then I have both Suzie Baby and Shirley! Thanks for helping me and for your patience. I will place Linda Lu on the 59' list. I have it on a great sounding Ray Sharpe anthology. I believe the song was produced by Lee Hazlewood, as I recall. You have been so helpful, I cannot thank you enough!

    Best regards,

    Bob
