Nothing beats the original JW Tarzan's....I bought all of those movies on DVD sometime last year. My favorite one was 'New York Adventure' along with 'Tarzan and the Amazons'.

    "What's that noise??"
    "That's the law mister!"

I also remember sometime back in the 80's (if memory serves) I believe that JW was briefly on an episode of the 'Price Is Right' when he did his famous jungle call in front of the audience....that was awesome to see.

In the movies, the famous Tarzan Yell was an electronically mixed sound recording.

After a period of time, Tarzan learned to replicate the Tarzan Yell himself.

It meant "back the hell off", and he always said it to attacking animals, usually lions. Never to Cheetah.

The original Tarzan was Elmo Lincoln, who was rumored to actually stab and kill a lion onscreen.

Here is a bit about it.

"In one scene a lion is supposed to crawl through the window of Tarzan's cabin to devour Jane. Tarzan grabs him and pulls him out. Rumor has it that the old and drugged lion turned on Elmo Lincoln who stabbed and killed him. "I stepped on him to beat my chest. As my foot pressed down on him, the remaining air in his lungs escaped with a loud whoosh. I was already shaken and you should have seen me jump!" The lion wound up as a lobby display when the picture opened on Broadway. However, Enid Markey and others from the cast have disputed this version of events, saying that the lion was actually killed off screen. Contrary to popular opinion, the death of the lion is not actually shown on screen. It is already dead when Elmo stabs at it, barely puncturing its skin."

I was at an Animal Safari Park on the Oregon Coast several years back. I was playing with a lion cub, the Mother was on a chain a few yards away. Apparently the chain was a little too long...she suddenly jumped up and leapt at me, hitting me in the chest with her front feet, knocking me back a ways. That was quite a...thrill. I was wearing a white practice jersey and I didn't wash it for awhile, it had two huge muddy paw prints on the front. It's a good thing she was only irritated and not pissed.

I remember a Johnny Weissmuller Tarzan film where the Nazis had him locked up in a little prison building.
He let out a Tarzan yell and the elephants jump up and come running.
He does another yell and the lions come running.
Another yell and the gorillas come to his aid.
The elephants knock down the wall releasing Tarzan.
The other animals attack the Nazis too.
I just watched "Tarzan Triumphs" which was a Nazi film, but that wasn't it.
Does anybody know the title of the film?

If a nazi gets eaten by a giant spider it's "Tarzan's Desert Mystery."

Back when I was a kid in da Bronx, I remember my reaction to the public service commercials where they'd tell us to NOT shoot ourselves or jump off buildings ala the Superman shows of the day. I mean, get serious, I wasn't even from Krypton! BUT.....I also remember how I felt watching Tarzan's NYC adventure....when he jumped off the Brooklyn Bridge I remember thinking that if ol' Johnny could make it, it was doable!!! Looking back it surprises me that more kids didn't take a shot at it!;)

There was a guy in my high school who could absolutely nail the Tarzan yell. He would sometimes let loose on a Tarzan yell between classes. You know school principals -- I think they eventually threatened him with suspension if he did it during school hours.

I loved these as a kid. I've got the dvd boxsets. The ones with the green card covers
I still laugh my head my head off when he runs through the jungle at zillion miles an hour withy the speed up camera.
And then there was Jane. As I got into my teens she certainly held my interest in the series.
Im too old and frail to even think about Jane nowadays
    Harumph.

It’s been years and years, but I must’ve watched those JW Tarzan movies 100x

all I remember are Cheetah, Elephants, and poor Africans always falling to their deaths or being killed in numerous ways like Star Trek red shirts

great movies I’d probably cringe now watching them I’ll let the memory remain as it is

    When you think about it...
    John Weissmuller's co-star was Maureen O' Sullivan.
Maureen marries John Farrow, an academy award winner/director/writer.
Maureen also appeared in The Marx Brothers great film 'A Day At The Races'.
Maureen and John have 7 children, including Mia and Prudence.
Mia ends up marrying Frank Sinatra, and Prudence ends up in a song by John Lennon on The White Album.
There should be a whole thread of this kind of stuff alone.

I do. After seeing Daktari I would spot Marshall Thompson in tons of old movies.
