Ah yes, now I hear it (thanks for those links!). There are two guitars: a rhythm and a solo. If this was live, then I presume that's Roland and Andy. In the Dallas recording, I hear both. In the Baltimore one, I only hear the solo (no rhythm), though it's a rough audience recording that may not have picked up everything. So for this 2021 Massey Hall release, it could be as simple at the solo guitar being mixed out. Or maybe not. What we really need is a full video release of Massey Hall, that should clear everything up!
I've always loved the bass line of "Head Over Heels" and it sounds really good on this live recording. But I've also never felt Curt was a great bass player, especially not at this stage of their career. So either he played a lot better than I thought he could in 1985, or this performance has been "fixed" in the studio. Or maybe even a backing track.
Ordered the vinyl, not much info about this release anywhere, TFF themselves don't mention it on Twitter or their website etc, presume they arent crazy about it being released?
I think they want to keep it low-key until the general release happens - not playing into the hands of flippers, etc.
Speaking about that, there was a link going around here a few weeks back that supposedly was the general September release, and it turns out it was a Rory Gallagher album! I'm glad I got the CD from a shop in Denmark
It sounds like it was dubbed. The original music was on the VHS tour to the world from 1985. I gotta watch it again tonight.
I was reading about the band more in life. They got to be worth more than what's it claim in net worth. Just the original Songs from the Big Chair album was a world wide smash hit could have easily sold more than 50 million copies and a lot more on their follow-up albums...
Oh great. Yeah man they're my heroes. Their music and songwriting is ingenious! Honestly they were ahead of everyone at that time. Cant wit to get my massey album... Shout, shout, let it all out These are the things I can do without Come on.. I'm talking to you, come on (vocal background) I'd really love to break your arm.... I'd really love to break your Aaaarm.. (Shout, shout)..
I saw a copy of the CD at Amoeba Records Hollywood on Saturday, $26.99. So I guess some US stores got it…
It’s not bad! Better than I expected. The CD selection has shrunk and the vinyl has expanded as I expected, but it still felt like Amoeba. Fairly easy access from the 101. The surrounding area looks like Mad Max with all the homeless camps though.
Thanks for this suggestion. I ordered (2). One for myself and one for a friend. I think I paid $36 shipped for the pair to my house in Alabama. Got them while on vacation. Listened this weekend... great album.
