Well, that explains why I was surprised to hear the acoustic guitar in The Working Hour on the 2014 remaster, given that I was used to the 2006 deluxe edition!

The sheer amount of work you have put into writing and compiling this column article is stunning JoshM; as someone who writes liner notes for record labels from time to time I say a huge thank you for sharing this piece. I know how hard it is to write about your favourite albums without gushing, being evangelical, not repeating adjectives such as 'epic', 'dreamy' etc. Your column is absolutely fascinating background to two of my Top 10 albums of all-time, and although I have seen the documentary and read some of the articles that quotes are pulled from, the complete essay is superb. I started reading and then realised this was going to require at least 2 coffees!! Now listening to SFTBC of course, and hearing things in a different way :)

Wow. I’m flattered. This is a labor of love, and feedback like yours really means a lot to me. Thank you for taking the time to write it.

What a fantastic piece! I assumed I was done buying these, but not knowing about the Whittaker mastering before now, I just bought SFTBC on CD for the 6th time, 7th time overall.

    Fantastic review, great work.
I did try to make these kind of columns (in French) for a digital publication. But you are so much better than I was!

Do you have a handy link for that version? It's tough to wade through all of the versions of SFTBC on sites like Amazon.

That mastering has been issued on more than one disc in Japan, as the article points out.

This is the most recent one:
Tears For Fears - Songs From The Big Chair

This one is the Platinum SHM-CD:
Tears For Fears - Songs From The Big Chair

    This one is an SACD:
Tears For Fears - Songs From The Big Chair

Other Japanese discs since 2014 may also use this mastering. I can't be sure since I don't own any of them.

I'm pretty sure Universal wanted to release it much earlier. Paul had announced it for a possible 2015 release! But it kept being pushed back. The last thing I heard is that something will definitely be released this year. Whether that is the Seeds box is unclear at this point.

That's a hopeful sign!! But if it is just tied to the documentary that's another major letdown... ignoring the Seeds box in favor of previously released sets.

My sentiments exactly. Just announce it already! These guys are so fickle some times. Get it out there while there still is market for em.

JPC in Germany lists the SFTBC box for March but not The Hurting for some reason...

And the latest from SuperDeluxeEdition on the 2 bits of news that we'd prefer to hear about:

'If you are wondering about The Seeds of Love and ‘the new album’, the record label say “new material and further reissues on the horizon”!'

I wonder: will the standalone Blu-ray get a rerelease?

In the comments on the SDE page, Paul answers "no" about the stand-alone Blu-ray.
