... and yes, as has been said: today an artist obviously needs sell as many different configurations and formats and colours as possible. Vinyl. Cassettes. I never expected to see those rise again but those tiny spools seem to become yet another driving force these days with no artist who wants to sell forgoing the medium. Billie Eilish's 2021 first week sales have been referenced here in this forum from a New York Times article: 73.000 vinyl 46.000 CD 10.00 Cassette Several acts have also done editions on eight track tape throughout the more recent years and ... I wanted to joke, I was looking forward to someone releasing new music on wax cylinder. Then I did a web search. I was too late.
Are the unheard bonus tracks all Roland penned songs? Curt originals seem to be a finite resource. Eagles - Hotel California Stones - Satisfaction/Start Me Up Bruce - Born in the USA A few others do it for "grab their attention"/"Get it out of the way" reasons.
True, and in the case of Tears of Fears, it helps that Shout, which was just as big of a hit as Everybody Wants to the Rule the World at the time, is usually played at the end of the live sets now, so the two biggies begin and end the set. It would be strange if Everybody... was their only known hit and began the set.
Funny story: on more than one occasion somewhat recently, I have heard that song used as the hold music when having to make a call to a business and then sitting on hold for 10 minutes.
It absolutely does. I'd argues it's far more popular now than in the 80s (on this side of the world anyway).
Also a new record - two songs not co-written by Roland. The previous maximum one was one on ELAHE ("Who You Are").
Who you are is a great track. Don't get me wrong i love roland's writing...but curt's mayfield album showcased some great curt stuff (w charlton too)
Today I have come across this. After that Mad World cover of Diva and Curt I have been waiting for her own music, especially after I read somewhere she wants to be a musician. I would like to know if she wrote it herself. I like the laid back feel. The video ... not so much, I am glad I listened first a few times before watching. Here is some PR text about her and this track. But still no mention of who wrote this? Are you serious? Diva Smith / Bet | Early Rising
And I have just found there is more: this is Roland's son, Pascal Orzabel. May be old news to you, but not to me, and I guess others as well. We have got something TFF related to listen while we wait to reach the tipping point ...
I'm actually kind of aware of both (the Travel Fans have promoted them quite a bit) but never bothered to listen...
Roland is the guest on the most recent episode of the fairly new podcast The Story Behind The Song. He discusses “Mad World” and “The Tipping Point” as well as his childhood and early years. The Story Behind Tears for Fears' Unexpected Hit "Mad World," New Single "The Tipping Point"
Roland was great but the interviewer lacked the knowledge of the band , I think he said was Curt in Graduate ??
The interviewer was definitely messy in places. He should be embarrassed. Roland overlooked it and gave a good interview.
He sure was. Interrupted Roland at key points thought he was going to miss getting to the key elements of the Tipping Point.
I was waiting to find that out before ordering, and now it's sold out. Well, I guess black vinyl will do just fine.
In two weeks we'll get the next single, "No Small Thing". From how it's been described (starting acoustically), there's quite a chance it might end up my favourite song on the album.
