Of course not. Not everyone agrees on anything. I can say it's one of the worst carts I've ever heard though. IMHO.
Sure, but I really doubt Technics would have chosen to include it with their 1500C if it 'flat out sucked' lol...
They needed a cart for a plug 'n play turntable and they made a bulk deal with Ortofon for the 2M Red. Just as other TT manufacturers do.
I think Schiit really did well, including Grado Timbre Opus3 with their TT for only $155 extra. For a lot of folks who are not into classics or audiophile records it can be end game.. IMHO.
Yes, and they chose that cart. Because obviously many people think it's decent. And many people thought it was a nice match for the 1500C.
I kind of suspect that cartridge doesn’t exist to sell stand alone at all. It’s awful for the price and is bettered by the competition at half the price. My guess is the strategy is sell a cheap cartridge for $100 at retail that few will buy. Offer that same cart to manufactures for the price they’d normally charge for say a $40 cartridge, and let the manufacturers claim its a $100 value. Then push the blue as the upgrade to get a second bite at the Apple and make a lot more margin on whatever percentage of customers make that upgrade. It’s a “get customers into the ecosystem” play I suspect.
I rarely see anyone that ends up with it on purpose. Typically they buy a Pro-Ject that comes with it or maybe a dealer pushes it on them.
Because included cartridges can ship "pre-aligned" for customer convenience. And people will pay for convenience. A lot of people even semi-interested in records may be wary of handling, mounting, and aligning a cartridge. Including one ready to use could make or break a turntable sell for those that see it as a "hassle".
Very nice. It will be a big seller at is essentially a 1500C without the phono preamp. Should be a solid table. Even tho it will be made in Malaysia but at this price point that’s ok ! Now that I have the G and my old MK5 let me see if I can find a 3rd space for one of these LOL ! My wife would kill me
Yet they could've went much cheaper, say with the VM95C as the new SL-100C has been blessed with! Nice try.
There is nothing wrong with the 2m Red, however I would agree it doesn't make a lot of sense using it on a $1000 deck.
This comment has not gone unnoticed lol! Are you saying this because you think the SL-100C may be good enough (for your needs), and maybe the extra cost of the GR can't justify the benefits that may not even be noticeable? That's kind of what I'm thinking right now, and I had just made the decision to get the GR as of yesterday...
Just a touch too dull for me, I like the silver accents on the 100C that were borrowed from the GR. Tho I might like the 100C even better with a black tonearm.
Yes please don't, I know a specific member who will appear out of nowhere to hurl insults at you LOL!
What I haven't seen in the online publicity pieces is when this will be released in the USA. We must be a bigger market for them than across the pond, right?
