Also the originsl Technics 1200s mk2 to mk5 have a superior sound and build quality to the GR.
The G and GAE being the only decks in the new range to build upon the originals strength and improving on them.
I also recommend the KaB td1000 arm fluid damper

Interesting, that's not something I've heard as many direct comparisons about.

Yes I have the 3 decks running on the same system.
The original Technics 1200 mk2 (mine is the 1210) has a better build quality than the new GR and by some margin.
The mk2 has a metal tonearm base like the new G. This stiffens and reduces resonance. Internally the mk2 has a membrane of rubber. This massively reduces vibrations from both footfall and using the deck.
The GR is basically an empty case when it comes to sound deadening.
The cue lever on the GR is crude and jerky and full of play.
The result in sound is that the mk2 sounds more refined. Closer to the G.
The sound is brighter and more open than the GR.

I'd be very suspicious of those reviews.
My experience having both models was very much the opposite.
There is no advantage in the GR over the original series. Only the G can improve on the original series of tables

Friend had both the G&GR for a home loan recently & purchased the G
recently fitted a few mods during lockdown to his Frankensteintechnics
    mat - stein music
    feet - funk firm boing
arm - groovemaster & Miyajima Shilabe cartridge
mains - edwards Iso balanced T/X with vertere redline cable
    phono cable - vertere redline
Excellent sound & outperforms his old very hi spec LP12
