    January 16, 1987?

Do you have a photo of the serial number label?

Maybe it’s 7I16, rather than 7116. I think a letter for the month follows the number for the year in the 1980s.

The serial number on my unit is pretty close to the OP's (MJ7821F224)

This will be a new project. Now I have to go get the SN of mine to fulfill the curiosity Ive had on its age as I have no idea.

1987 Jan 16th Unit number 39 made that day

Edit: Note it is not Nov 6 (11/6)as Nov is "K" ----- Oct is J, Dec is L ---- Jan CAN be A but have seen it both ways

1987 Aug 21 Unit 224 made that day

Not 100% sure, I used to think it was day of the week, but seeing as how most of them are D or F that I have seen, I now think it is a plant code / designation. But again, not 100% sure.

January 16, 1987 and August 21, 1987 were both Fridays. Interesting.

(no Pocan insert, base material is more form fitted to the unit)

    Age? Not a clue.

I wonder what year they started putting the Pocan insert in...

Pretty early on, I'd imagine. Does your TT have the 4" diameter plate where the RCA cable and ground wire come out of the base?

Yup --- we know it's not 1991 because then it would start with the letters GE.

The GE prefix gets a tad confusing since they did not change after the year 2000, so if its "GE1" to start the serial number, you can't be sure if it's 1991 or 2001.

Sure does. They should have kept that, IMHO.
