Go to Google and search "best albums of 2010" and "2011", etc. Google will pull up album covers, names and genres of 20-30 of the most critically acclaimed albums of each given year. Sample the ones that look interesting to you (or all of them) on Spotify. If you dig something, listen to the whole record. If you like the whole record, listen to more albums by the same artist. If you like those, click on the "Fans Also Like" section on Spotify to see other artists that appeal to the same listeners. Check those artists out. Lather, rinse, repeat.

I never understand when people on this forum talk about how much of a hassle it is to find new music. It's extremely easy, in my opinion. $10 a month for Spotify, access to Google and you're off to the races. You just actually have to listen to stuff and let your curiosity lead you.

What is something you have heard this decade that you enjoyed? There must be something. Start there and expand outwards.

That Midlake album is such a gem. I’ve liked what they’ve done since okay, but they haven’t matched that one yet.

About 18 months ago, I came across this track wafting from the supermarket speakers and managed to Shazam it.

    (track proper starts 1:24 in)

The first Broken Bells album, from 2010, studio genius Danger Mouse teaming up with Shins vocalist par excellence James Mercer. I can't enough of it. Sounds like they threw all of pop/rock history into a blender, and pressed the 'Pet Sounds' button. Tossed a couple mariachi horn samples in for good measure.

Sounds kind of like an updated Shuggie Otis (musically speaking).
