Almost too much great new music to mention. This place’s underlying refusal to accept that great music continued to be made after the Beatles broke up is disheartening, to say the least. Here’s a list of artists whose worst album is better than Egypt Station:

    Low
    Real Estate
    The Clientele
    Chromatics
    Burial
    King Krule
    Kanye West
    Andy Schauf
    Mac DeMarco
    Hand Habits
    Jay Som
    JPEGMAFIA
    Zola Jesus
    Japanese Breakfast
    John Grant

Khruangbin’s ‘Con Todo El Mundo’ from 2018 is one of my favourite albums that I’ve discovered in years. The vocals are mostly chanted, sometimes wordless, and always low in the mix. The guitar sound seems equally influenced by southern rock, surf rock, and all kinds of world music, particularly Mexican and South American, and it’s backed by the steadiest drummer and most melodic bass player I’ve ever heard. It’s their second full-length album. The first one, ‘The Universe Smiles Upon You’ from 2015, is worth checking out, too.

    Elsewhere:
    — “Keep on Loving You” (yes, the REO Speedwagon song) — Cigarettes After Sex (2015, ambient indie rock)
    — “Please Don’t Cry” — Cigarettes After Sex (2011, indie rock)
    — the album ‘Antisocialites’ — Alvvays (2017, indie rock)
    — the album ‘The Endless River’ — Pink Floyd (2014, ambient, mostly instrumental. Many disagree with me on this one, but every note is beautiful to my ears.)
    — “Say Something” — A Great Big World WITHOUT Christina Aguilera (2013, pop piano ballad)
    — “Victory” — Trampled by Turtles (2010, modern bluegrass)
    — the album ‘Lungs’ by Florence + the Machine (2009, indie pop. This 2010 performance of “Cosmic Love” specifically is gorgeous and addictive. )
    — “Let Me In” — Snowmine (2011, indie rock)
    — “Stand by Me” — Florence + the Machine (2016, orchestral pop)

Older, but exceptional enough to warrant a mention:
    — the album ‘The Age of the Understatement’ — The Last Shadow Puppets (2008, rock, with strong Britpop and ‘60s baroque influences)
    — “Is There a Ghost” — Band of Horses (2007, rock. Best leap-out-of-the-speakers album opener I’d heard in at least 15 years.)

Totally agree with you on Courtney Barnett and Billie Eilish. Love everything they've done so far. Both of them are totally unique and extremely talented.

Purple Mountains - Purple Mountains (2019). I was a latecomer to the poetic world of David Berman. "American Water" by Silver Jews passed me by when it came out in 1998.

Sierra Ferrell was recently signed to Rounder Records and should have an album coming out in 2020. I think she's someone to keep an eye on.

The New Adventures of P.P. Arnold... her first release of new material in 51 years. There's an inclusion of a spoken word piece by Dylan... Last Thoughts On Woody Guthrie. A most unexpected choice.

It's a wonderful recording. Some say her best ever; including her earlydays as an Intermediate artist.

Start with the title track or ‘That Sound” but the whole album is solid.
