He's not everyone's cuppa tea, but I was really impressed with (and completely blindsided by) Richard Dawson's 2017 album, "Peasant". The lead single from it, "Ogre", still gives me chills even though I've heard it dozens of times.

He just released a new album a few days ago (called "2020")... I'm looking forward to hearing it, but the first single released wasn't nearly as powerful as anything on "Peasant".

They also did a cover of Kate Bush's "Running Up That Hill" that I really like. I discovered them while looking for covers of that song.

These guys are a riff and hook factory (4 songwriters in the band). If you like this sort of thing, you've got 25 years' worth of backlog to dig into.

Nice Thread, OP! Although question is very broad in scope. There's plenty of terrific "new" music to choose from.
Most of my list's artists have put out new releases in 2019 or 2018, in addition to earlier.
Agree on a number already mentioned: White Lies, Spoon, Sam Fender.
It'd be great if you came back on from time to time & let us know what you're thinking of any of the recommendations/who you're enjoying. A courteous way to thank members for participating & providing their picks. :):righton:

Will add: (Off top of head; no particular order). With the exception of The Blue Stones & Divine Fits, they've all got more than 1 release-Recommend all.

    Indie/Alternative R:
Divine Fits (Britt Daniel/Spoon & Dan Boekner/Wolf Parade one-off, to date).
    Miles Kane (solo career)
    Johnny Marr (solo career)
    Catfish And The Bottlemen
    Metric

The Strypes (not to be confused w/The White Stripes)
    Band of Skulls
    The Struts
    Royal Blood
    The Blue Stones
    The Sherlocks
    The Shelters
    (Tom Petty proteges)

    Contemporary Country:
    Thomas Rhett
    Maren Morris
    Kelsea Ballerini

    Indie Pop:
    Ellie Goulding

Divine Fits - Full Performance (Live on KEXP)
Metric - Dark Saturday - Official Music Video [HD]
Johnny Marr - Call The Comet - Official Album Trailer [HD]
The Shelters - Rebel Heart [Official Audio]
Band of Skulls - Baby Darling Doll Face Honey [Full Album]
The Sherlocks - I Want It All (Official Audio)
Maren Morris - GIRL (Lyric Video)
The Blue Stones - Black Holes (Solid Ground)
    Sam Fender - Hypersonic Missiles
    The Strypes - Mystery Man

Last Crack released an album this year, their first since 1991. I haven't heard the whole thing, but I've heard a couple of good tracks so far.

I still love classic rock and prog but I also love exploring and finding new bands. Some of the many I enjoy are Wilco, Jason Isbell, Frank Turner, Milk Carton Kids, Billy Strings, The Dead South, The Avett Brothers, The Wood a Brothers, Band of Heathens, The Revivalists, The Raconteurs(all Jack Whites collaborations), Vampire Weekend, The Struts, Steven Wilson, Iron & Wine..... There is still a lot of good new music out there. You just got to search.
