I can't really think of any lyrics that give me a thrill, but James Durante's looks give me a thrill.

The original intent of the thread isn't really the lyrics alone, but the way that the performer sings them.

That's a great verse . One of my favourites and one of the best songs from The Clash .

Oddly , Paul Simon didn't think much of it. He declined an invite backstage after an Elvis concert because he didn't want to tell him he felt it copied the Simon and Garfunkel version too closely.
    Simon preferred Aretha's version.

I agree with Paul. Nothing wrong with Elvis´ version, but Aretha Franklin kicks it out of the ball park. (You know, where the cross is?) She does the same with with Elton John´s "BORDER SONG". She doesn´t necessarily make the songs better, but she gives them her own extra layer of magic. We lost a great singer when she died.

I also get thrills when I listen to this song. An understated one, perhaps, but it always works:

And this one. I could list dozens, at least, but this was today´s quota.

I think I need a stiff drink, if that's alright

Sorry, the lawn guy drank it all last night

Maybe I'll just hide under the covers

You should wash 'em first, they still smell like your brother

@ 2:20, I always though (is that John or Paul? one of them) is kicking off the beginning of a hip hop song with the 'up go go go' phrase. Very interesting little sound in there, to me.

The whole song is brilliant, but the final few verses just stop me in my tracks. Unvarnished empathy seems thrilling these days.

    Seams blew up or cracked
    Black diamonds came hard won
    Generations toiled and hacked
For a pittance and black lung

    Crushed by tub or stone
    Together
    And alone
    How the young and old
    Paid the price of coal

    Eighteen sixty-seven
    My angel's gone to heaven
    He'll be happy there
    Sunlight and sweet clean air

    They gather round the glass
    Tough hewers and crutters
    Child trappers and putters
    The little foals and half-marrows
    Who pushed
    And pulled the barrows
    The hod boys
    And the rolleywaymen

    great lyrics, great LP

    I didn't know
    I was such a fool,
And it took me a long time
    Just to find out.
    That my head
    Is upside down,
    What I was standing on
You know, it wasn't too solid ground, oh no

Forgot one of my favourites: John Lennon / Strawberry Fields Forever

“living is easy with eyes closed, misunderstanding all you see”

also: “no-one I think is in my tree, I mean it must be high or low”

    Both brilliant, thought provoking, inspirational.

Songs mentioning a mummy's tomb give me a thrill. This 1984 hit song by Johnny Lee entitled 'You Could've Heard A Heartbreak,' is the only song I'm aware of which accomplishes this feat.

'Cause he's got this girl hangin' all over him
He can't quit now, he's gone out on a limb
Then the place turns quiet as a mummy's tomb
Guess who happened to walk in the room
