I think one of the reasons many people prefer the U. S. Rubber Soul is because What Goes On isn’t on it.

That and "Are You Ready Eddie" off of Tarkus.
Seems as if ELP ran out of material and included a filler song on the end of the album.

    THIS ! THIS THIS THIS

Also, while it doesn't quite ruin Back in Black, "What Do You Do for Money Honey" takes the LP down several notches in my estimation

Then why do I keep skipping it and by doing so improve my personal enjoyment of the album?

Just who are these "musicologists" you speak of? I'm glad the musicologists like it...I do not like it and that's that. :tiphat:

"Twisted" on Joni Mitchell's "Court And Spark" is one I usually think of when this comes up. "Trouble Child" would've rounded it all off gloriously (it's a definite highlight of the album for me; maybe even a centrepiece of sorts). Those guitar lines following "..the waves at Malibu" are among my favourite bits of music, period. Just a stunning marriage of words and music, after which a little silence is all you need. But no, our girl had to tack on a mischievous cover all about being a clever little brat. I say "No need, m'am - your reputation precedes you". If it had to go on the album, she should have stuck it on side one, maybe even as an opening palate cleanser to lighten the mood before the title track starts the album off proper. The way it segues out of "Trouble Child" spoils the mood for me, like I'm being whisked out of my beach chair while half asleep deep in thought. I'm sure Joni's decision was made on solid artistic grounds, but I still say it detracts significantly from the overall experience. I don't particuarly hate the song either, it's just SO not what I want to hear right there. And since it's such an amazing album, little quirks and flaws like that can end up making the difference between "excellent" and "unutterably brilliant and perfect".

The Cars Door to Door is not a great album but Coming Up You really drives that point home.

You've GOT to be kidding? That haunting Nicky Hopkins piano part....chilling. And it fits in with the decadence / abuse of side two quite well.

She's So Fine - on Axis Bold As Love
Little Miss Strange - on Electric Ladyland
    Act Naturally - on Help!
    Revolution N° 9 - on The Beatles
Octopuses Garden - on Abbey Road

They don't "ruin" the albums but they get on my nerves.

Most of those stupid covers (aside from Susie Q, of course) kind of mar Creedence Albums for me. Would it have been out of the question to drop a couple and stick a Tom tune in their place instead? Apparently so.

I think what amuses me, stepping away from being fanatical about a group, I bet the average person would think most of the albums named previously only have 4-5 good songs on them, and none are perfect!

Probably because everyone has their own personal tastes and we are all free to have our own individual likes and dislikes??
