Quick question to reactivate this thread - how noisy are the original IA pressings of PSof13FE and EE? I've heard about terrible quality pressings, but I've also heard some wonderful examples. Anyone?

I've never actually held one in my hands, but I've heard needle drops that sounded really good.

That's exactly what I've "heard" as well. However, they must have pulled some kind of alchemy on those LPs, because I've heard a lot of comments that some of the original vinyl was quite noisy. I was just wondering if anyone here had any "first-hand" experience.

Is there any way to get that jug out of the recordings? I tried these guys and can't stand that sound.

Look elsewhere. The jug is a feature, not a flaw.

Pro Tools anti-jug filter plug-in. C'mon, the electric jug is one of the best things about the Elevators!

If you want 13th Floor Elevators without the jug, either A) do more drugs or B) find any other psych-garage / Nuggets-style band from the ‘60s.

Love the jug! It’s the single most psychedelic instrument!!

It's true. I used to subscribe to a great magazine that was specifically about jugs.

Right now the double Charly set of Psychedelic Sounds is $19.99. I don’t have a copy on vinyl. Should I ignore and wait for a better version to show up one day??

Laservampire Down with this sort of thing

I know several folks who have owned and transferred original pressings. Some of them are a little bit noisy, but not all of them. And certainly not noisy to the point where they cannot be cleaned with a simple declicker. The key is to get a really good transfer, and folks have been working on that with quite a bit of success. The sad thing is that Charly, Drummond and other people involved in the reissues are completely oblivious, and seem to truly believe that the poor copy tapes they have been using are the actual master tapes from 1966. A friend of mine recently had a discussion with the mastering engineer, and he became real nasty about having used the original tapes, similar to the Chicago remix guy. It's probably a pipe dream that there will ever be a good reissue of these albums.

The Elevators were distressed when they first heard the mono vinyl of their first LP. They couldn't believe how lousy it sounded. This is all in Drummond's book.

They actually labelled the tapes as 1976 in the 3rd Eye box but then started claiming the same tapes were original masters on subsequent releases. They clearly aren't and it's beyond ridiculous for them to try and claim that.

Drummond is tied with contractual obligations not to say anything bad about releases. Same with his recent book A Visual History - he had no choice how to title the book or which cover to use.
Mastering engineer was quite nasty but in the end was asked me to send him best sources of everything and he will pass it to Charly. Then he said that he had no time to look into that and links was already expired. I did my best!
