yeah but after this week's dreck (and last week's, to a lesser degree) i found myself desperately wishing for noah and helen to be back front and center.

Mostly agree, though aspects of last Sunday's episode worked, unexpectedly. I don't know where they're going to go with Noah/Helen, or how they're going to get there.

Anna Paquin has a thankless job - "Joanie" is screwed up, ice cold and unappealing. The odd thing is, she hooks up with every guy she encounters so far. Has she missed one yet?

Ruth Wilson's Alison was very screwed up, yet warm, and very appealing. Noah's attraction to her in Season 1 was completely believable.

It's very disjointed. There's no cohesiveness at all - it seems like every character is going to get their own half hour.

The awkward shoehorning in of the climate stuff is cementing this season's status of one of the worst ever for any show.

You “guess” choking (as a matter of habit) could be self-destructive?

It’s been two...but nevertheless how is this odd to people? Her self-destructiveness is the debris of her DNA and her family/life experiences.

Well the first half was more like the old Affair in some ways. Makes no sense that Margaret keeps saying their money is gone but they are still in that house. No way would that sales woman swear like that in a high end shop.
Can't believe they are throwing Metoo at Noah.
The second half, especially last 20 mins was incredibly stupid. Writing is atrocious and the acting not too far behind. It is completely unbelievable Ben would confess and even recognize Joanie and be waiting all those years.
Then for them to physically struggle and he sets her up .. Oh my gosh it's beyond terrible. There can't be much left to show of Joanie now.

The Joanie segment could've been good but it was beyond cringeworthy. The dialog, emotions and interaction when Ben was confessing were awful. Ben's turning of the tables could've salvaged it but that was even muffed. The police just walk out with no further inquiries? Joanie can't produce a train ticket or the guy she is staying with as an alibi?
How many episodes are left?? :sigh:

    No kidding!
    Check out this:
“Set aside the fact that Joanie, a grown professional person, heads out to meet up with the man who likely killed her mother without an escort, without any backup. The fact that despite not knowing that she was coming, nor having ever met her before, Ben Cruz has a trap all laid out for Joanie at the ready. Except, that trap falls apart when we ponder one important plot point.

When Joanie showed up at Ben’s house and signed the release form, she was still posing as Gabrielle. So, unless she was a total idiot, she signed her name (to something she didn’t even bother reading, who does that) as Gabrielle. So how would that paperwork be binding, it’s not her name! “That is your signature on this form,” the cop tells her. Is it really? If it is, then she’s incredibly stupid; if it’s Gabrielle’s name, then this plot twist is.”

    100 percent !
Joanie has a husband and co workers and EJ can vouch for her. How about the patients there ? They'd know she wasn't there for weeks like Ben said.
There isn't one thing that made sense about that scenario.
Correct me if I'm wrong but at the end of season 4 Ben started to try to kiss Alison and she wanted him out because he was married, she was through.
Then he snapped and she hit her head, etc.
What he told Joanie that he was impotent since the war, wasn't true, but everything else sounded accurate to my recollection.
What about Luisa and her attitude?
The Solloways never did anything to her. Suddenly Noah has to see Joanie when he never seemed to have anything to do with her when he and Alison split.. Did the writers think about anything they put together for this season ??
Remember the days when they seemed to pay strict attention to detail in presenting the two sides of the story?!

holy god make the joanie stuff stop. i'd rather have 3 more hours of whitney's point of view because at least i'd get to see west and tierney play the parts they've mastered at this point.

Re: The most recent episode. I liked the Noah half. I didn't much like the Joanie half. Some of the plot inconsistencies were noted in previous posts above.

Most of the Noah half was pretty good. The scene in the bridal dress store was bad, though. First off, the salesgirl would never have dropped an F-bomb to a customer. Second, these people know that potential customers can be extraordinarily fickle. Today they say no to $20k, tomorrow they may come back and buy something at that price point. It is part of the job. (I dated someone who owned a high end dress shop in Boston, and got lots of stories about this). So no matter what the customer says, you go along with it.

yeah, but you gotta remember the entire thing was from noah's point of view which tends to always be a bit more dramatic. and while they're doing a terrible job at driving that truth home this season, i keep reminding myself that actually nothing in this entire season may be as it seems.

Ah, good point. Yeah, I had forgotten about that since they have sort of abandoned the Rashomon stuff this season.

Episode 8 actually was pretty good I thought , like the old days more.
If I recall correctly Noah wasn't interested in Eden and she did come on strong . I remember him stopping before sleeping with her.
As for that former student he did say a thing or two to her that sounded dismissive but she was annoying as hell and always looking for a debate.
Gosh that third season and those dinner scenes with the French lady and students were terrible :/
Looks like Sasha is not long for the rest of the story. Far too much time spent on Sierra.

That whole Christiana thing makes little sense, he's in charge of her trust , instead of a lawyer, and she begs for money, he relents.. And he's worried she'll write a book before the trust is available. What's to stop her from doing it after? Besides that it's not interesting to end of show.

    Anyone still watching?
Episode 9- Some good parts, not handling Metoo movement well. .
Couldn't stand Audrey or Eden and the former is blowing it out of proportion, the latter is lying.
It always irked me Noah took the wrap for Helen and has gotten so much grief from his family since. I want those kids to know what he did for her.
What's with Colin? Suddenly he's a good guy ? No, get rid of him. We get Furkat again, why ?!
Preview of next week didn't look too promising , hoping it's finally it for Sasha:/

The other male characters are written as such cads, they're making Noah look like Prince Charming, in comparison. Also, it's one thing to have a character in a series who's a train-wreck, but the entire cast of characters? C'mon. It wasn't intended to go so many seasons & they've strained to write more. This last has just been so rushed & sloppy. Yet, there have been good elements; it's just they're cramming in so many different story-lines into a limited amount of episodes, that the end result is a mess. :(

zero follow up to whitney's 'sex" scene with fur-cat......?????? other than her telling her father she cheated.

the man writes novels, yet sometimes comes across as dumber than a box of rocks, the whole noah character arch is just bad, real bad.
