Man, I love this band! Here’s my list Good Vibrations Surf‘s Up God Only Knows Heroes & Villains Please Let Me Wonder
Ooooh, now this is a tough one. It depends on my mood, time of day, the season, the weather, etc. For right now, in no particular order: In My Room I Get Around Breakaway Good Vibrations Surf's Up (1966 piano demo) 2nd string: The Lonely Sea Kiss Me Baby God Only Knows Cabinessence Cool Cool Water (Sunflower version) 3rd string: Darlin' Til I Die Friends Little Saint Nick (45 mix) Forever
I Get Around Wouldn't It Be Nice California Girls Kokomo Still Cruisin' The Still Cruisin' album needs to be reissued. I have a great suggestion for a bonus track that would fit that particular mold: Problem Child
Impossible Task. Favorites change daily. current list in no particular order: The Warmth of the Sun Surfs Up ‘til I Die All I Wanna Do Wouldn’t I Be Nice Honorable mention: In the Back of My Mind. One of the most incredible backing tracks ever.
Should be released as a twofer with Summer In Paradise and the 60s songs removed from Still Cruisin'. Rock N' Roll to the Rescue and California Dreamin' could also be bonus tracks!
God, I can’t pick five. I’ll try. Steamboat River Song Surf’s Up (1971) Day in the Life of a Tree Til I Die I’d rather pick sequences: Our Prayer/Cabinessence (20/20) Day In The Life of a Tree/Til I Die/Surf’s Up (Surf’s Up) From There to Back Again/Pacific Coast Highway/Summer’s Gone (That’s Why God Made the Radio) perfection.
Kind of surprisingly difficult for me. To me there are The Beach Boys of Cars, Surfing and Girls, and then the Beach Boys in which it was Brian soloing with the Beach Boys as his instruments. And my gosh they have at least 10 perfectly crafted pop songs. But 5 is asked and 5 it is. I guess Ill split it up. 1)God Only Knows- the greatest pop song ever imo. Nothing else touches this song from the 60s for me. 2)Surfs Up-A masterpiece of what it is like in that pre age 30 in which the fun is over and a new journey of maturity in life takes place. Western Psych Surf Music. Brians height if collaboration and depth to his writing. 3) I Get Around- The funnest Beach Boys song. And come on, isnt that what the young Beach Boys were, fun? All boy is this song. The signature car and cruising song. Snapshot of a young man in highschool just being cool and the backing vocals and chorus are just so infectious. It has the zoom of the hot rod. 4) Surfer Girl- Well if you are talking Beach Boys you are talking cars, surf and girls. How could I leave this homage to the beach beauties out? Sure you have Rhonda and Wendy..but this is about the one that is an ocean apparation of the perfect beach queen. And Brians vocals are perfect. My slow song holding hands pick that just edges out Warmth Of The Sun. 5) Surfin USA- We've covered cars and girls. Can't leave surfing out can, right?Ill admit that earliest Beach Boys is very simplistic. And yes they basically coped Chuck Berry. But in such a joyous way that I just have to pick this one. Its The Beach Boys "Please Please Me". The song that started it all for them. So number five it is for me. Yes, I know I am crazy for leaving "Good Vibrations" off. And "California Girls". But went for a balanced overview of what they sang about and the later creative songs. I could easily replace Surfs Up with Good Vibrations. But I am sticking with the above.
Wow, not easy to narrow it to five. They made some of the most beautiful music ever. But I'll go with: God Only Knows The Warmth of the Sun Good Vibrations Let's Go Away for Awhile The Lonely Sea
God Only Knows (everyone practically agrees on this one) Heroes and Villains All This Is That Surf's Up The Warmth Of The Sun
