I just created a thread on this a couple of days ago because I could not find "Copyright Extension 2019" in the search results. Hah...

There's so much fuss over The Rutles right now I figured I would give America's favorite sweethearts some time in the spotlight...

If they were to release all sessions documented for 1969 (per Bellagio) we would have:

    January
    9 - session: Forever/San Miguel
13 - session: San Miguel (remake) [Sunset]

That's a lot of sessions; a lot of individual songs, and a lot of outtakes. But then that also leaves us with the remaining Sunflower sessions tracked in 1970.
Do you suspect they would prefer to package it all in one "Sunflower Sessions" box?

If they do, will we have enough copyright extension leftover for 2020 to fill our heart's content?

Can't remember... on what date last year did we get confirmation/info on the '68 set?

It was shrouded in mystery and then one day it was out: the producers themselves were surprised, as they had thought it was coming out a week later.

If I recall correctly, last year's release was confirmed in the middle of November when Alan Boyd showed up on Beach Boys Discord (a chat room) and said he was working on it (prior to that, the rumor of the release had been passed around since later in September).

And yeah, Even Alan Boyd hadn't been informed of the actual release date until the day it was released.

Al Jardine said today that there is a great box set that they're working on. Its working title is Feel Flows. Contents are Sunflower, Surfs Up, and an unreleased live recording of which he has no memory doing. He didn't say what concert, physical/download, if it's certain for release, possible release date, whether remastered, if there are outtakes,...

I can't believe how indie bands have 10th anniversary box sets while legendary Beach Boys albums like "Friends" and "20/20" only get a digital release.

THat is interesting. The two actually form the best double album ever IMO. Despite their obvious differences in style and atmosphere,
I see them as complimentary, like Yin and Yang. with 'water' as the appropriate bridging element.
I mean, they cover such a wide spectrum, between syrupy At My Window and SDT.
The last song is permanently deleted from my cd edited playlist btw.

Sounds promising! While I'm OK with the downloads, I would prefer to see a physical release in this case. This was a brilliant phase in the band's career that deserves more recognition. Everyone in the band was bringing something worthwhile to the table, so I can't wait to hear more outtakes and alternate versions.

Great news. Certainly on the previous archival year-end clearance BB releases, they seem to be taking the "Everything must go!" approach. If they do that for both the Sunflower and Surf's Up sessions... that sounds like potentially a lot of unreleased material, correct? It almost sounds too ambitious in scope, but I certainly won't complain. :)

I was wondering how they might handle the 1969-71 era. Or at least the Sunflower material which was broken up over 1969-70. I can't imagine this box being released by the holiday rush. Normally there is at least a 6 week press release prior to the release date. Unless it's another download only release for next month like they have every year. Either way whether it's a 1969 only release or a mega set covering 1969-71 something big and awesome is coming.

I bet we are getting a physical box next year, but will see a 1969 download release next month as well. Most likely 1969 concerts and maybe some sessions.

I thought I read somewhere awhile back that they don't actually have any live 1969 tapes. Which would be a bummer, but the archives are what they are.

Not sure about 69', but Carl did get a lot tracked for the 'In Concert' album period.
The results being what were released, but apparently there is much more 'sitting around' from that period.
