I often wonder: How can on make individual instrument tracks wider yet the whole mix so cramped! Giles amazes me again!

It just occurs to me that Giles Martin has the worst job in the world, and no matter what he does he's going to piss somebody off.

Boy, am I thankful that I'm not doing the same job my father did!

If he did a better job, at least it wouldn’t be so many somebodies.

I like the mixes I heard, but then I'm not an Ultra-Orthodox Beatleite.

Whether you like Giles and what he has done or not, it would
still be interesting to find out exactly what was done, why and how.

This is great stuff, AND I'm going to use it at home.

I have a ton of tascam 4 track tapes I never could successfully move to my DAW, because I can only do two tracks at a time. One lucky break though is I always isolated drums on one track. So, if I move the first two tracks over, including the drum track, I can then move two more tracks at a time, making sure one of them is the drum track again. Then I can listen to the drums in real time, pay attention to phasing and "ride the varispeed" in the same way, fixing the differences.

This is really cool - can't wait to try it!!

Whether one likes the final remixes themselves, what the Abbey Road team did in realizing them is actually quite fascinating (and time consuming!).

So, I stopped at Walgreen's and picked up a pack of manila envelopes large enough to mail out my two copies of either:
    1. A fascinating exploration of updating the recordings by the World's Most Beloved Band.
    2. Documentation of History's Greatest Monster confessing to his crimes against humanity (evidence to be used in his trial at The Hauge.)
Offer good only in the US (sorry @Wildest cat from montana)

So, this thread has become another opportunity to trash Giles Martin’s work. Again from the same folks yapping over and over. Pfff... :rolleyes:

As I said he's apparently history's greatest monster, exceeding even the crimes of Pol Pot and Hitler.

When I was doing studio work back in the 70s, the varispeed we used was just a big old variable voltage control, basically a beefier version of the device we use to dim the lights in the studio back when all the available electronic dimmers would produce RF noise.

I have two copies I can send to people in the US. They have stickers on the cover with my mailing address, so none sent to anyone outside of the US or those who have sworn eternal blood vengeance on me and my family.

The sticker shouldn't be difficult to remove for anyone who has successfully peeled a second state Butcher cover.

The first two PMs get them. I'll update when I've received them

No problem. I know we subscribers get them earlier than they appear on the newsstands, so it may take a week or two.
