Well at least in the UK and four other countries it did. Just not globally. So what's the total global sales then? Something like 150k?

...you beat me to the answer...but I'd like to add to the original post that i believe he/she's wrong about a LIB stand alone remix wouldn't do too well. It may not go top five but I'm sure it would get into the top ten. I say this because there are enough Beatle fans still in search of the best possible LIB mix/remix. It's about half and half concerning Naked vs. Spector. A great selling "thing" for a stand-alone remixed LIB album would be if they replicated the original UK package with the book and outer slip case.

this seems more than a little short sighted. How many people know and care about Beethoven or Bach ( the original long hairs ! ) ? How about Robert Johnson? When I went to pick up my copy of Abbey Road, the record store owner said he had sold almost 40% of his copies to people 30 and younger. When the Stones were starting out, they listened to and bought the old Blues artists from decades before them. So someone from today will be remembered like those artists and carry on the legacy of their generation. Right now I don't see one of the statue of The Beatles, Dylan, Beethoven or Bach or Miles Davis or Hendrix or Johnson.

outselling almost all the current acts, Fan base means that the fan's grew up with the artist. Beethoven must have some really old fan's running around.

64,000 is impressive in an age when physical media is dying off. You can't even find a place to buy a CD most of the time.

Sadly.....there must be millions who already have passed on over the last 10-15 years. In the early 2000's a new Beatles product would still routinely sell 500k to over a million upon release. Either that or a lot those same people have given up purchasing physical media.......period.

Routinely? Can you back that up with some data?

1 did those numbers for a few weeks (even selling >1 mill in a week before Xmas), but that was hardly the standard. Yellow Sub peaked at #15 in 1999. LIBN peaked at #5.
    From Billboard:
The Beatles much ballyhooed revisitation “Let It Be ... Naked” begins at number five with 280,000 sold, more than its “Anthology 3“ moved when it started at Number 1 in 1996 and more than four times the best week for “Yellow Submarine Songtrack” in 1999.

"Let it Be Naked" sold 1 million in 2004 and "Love" 2 million in 2006. Probably the last time any new Beatles album sold that many copies. This based on Wiki info for overall sales. Not first week sales.

Ok - I read your post with the "upon release" phrase and thought you were talking initial sales. Agreed that the current market doesn't compare with those days...

Per United World Charts (which compiles all the chart info):
“The reissue of the legendary 'Abbey Road' album by the Beatles, due the 50th anniversary, returns atop the Global Album Chart this week with 218,000 equivalent sales. Since its release on September 26, 1969, the set sold nearly 27,5 million copies worldwide. 'Abbey Road' is the eleventh studio album by the Beatles, the record sessions were the last in which all four Beatles participated.

Looks like I underestimated by 60-70k. 218,000 worldwide initial sales ain't bad by today's standards.

You can't really, effectively compare album sales today to what they were in another bygone era. All you can do is compare sales rank with other current albums, and by that measure #1 in the UK and #3 in the US with the Beatles beating out lots of younger artists is a huge win.

The Beatles original fans are in their 70s now. Think about that. It's amazing how many kids, teens and young adults appreciate and buy music made 50+ years ago.

That's the victory for these remixes and box sets and putting that content on streaming services. It introduces very old music to a new generation.

It'll be interesting to see what effect, if any, timing/tying a LIB50 remix release to the new documentary film release will have on sales of the music. Will Let it Be get back to the Top 5 or even #1 in May?

Conversely, it can be viewed sadly, in that the music of today is so much less important and less worthy than the music of a previous generation. When the Beatles were creating their music, it was during the period of recorded music's greatest influence. And now music is just one of many things. What happened?

I think that ANY Beatles deluxe set released in the near-future would go Top 10.
The White Album deluxe set peaked in the USA at #6. The deluxe sets of Pepper and Abbey Road peaked at #3 in the USA. The trend will continue because it is the Beatles.
