That picture was taken at The Casbah and the girl with John, Margaret Hunt is the author of a fun little book called "Yesterday: Memories of a Beatles Fan". It's an enjoyable read with lots of first hand anecdotes from the early days in Liverpool. You're not likely to use it as a historical reference but it is nice to experience that period through the eyes of an early fan. Well worth a few $ for the Kindle edition.
This is my favorite Beatles "era". Thanks for all of the fantastic pictures! Anyone have any shots of the lesser Beatles? Chas Newby...Tommy Moore...are there others? Wan't there another drummer who was with them for about 5 minutes?
There's a chapter in 'Tune In ' with dozens of reminisces of The Beatles from their very earliest fans. It's enjoyable reading it because it puts you right into that special pre-Beatlemania hype and hysteria time and place. Just a bunch of young men and women enjoying 'their ' local group .
I do love her photos, and that moody athmosphere works great, but I kind of wish there were others by her which show a different mood. It never occured to me for decades, but I recently began to notice that even those she took of Stuart or of herself and him are all kind of sad or at least very earnest. I mean, every single one! I am certainly not one of those people who demands a person to smile all the time for a photo, but I'd love to see a pic of her and Stu having fun, or being happy. Does it exist? I only found pics of Stu being relaxed and natural with friends from art school, but the image mostly presented to Beatles fans is that of the brooding, tragic artist, always in deep thought.
I suppose they were all very young and earnest. And I don't think early 60s German existentialist twenty somethings believed in fun.
That first photo will never fail to make me laugh. The ’tude!! Is Paul’s early passport floating around anywhere?
And it is heartbreaking when they come to the realization that the Beatles are lost to them because of their success.
Such a disappointment ! Photo was too good to be true. . Thank you for the heads up. I've asked for it to be removed. Too many good legit photos available to post fakes.
